Idle Return
« on: June 27, 2007, 08:37:48 PM »
When idling if I rev up even just slightly, the bike doesn't return right back to idle.  For just about a second, sometimes longer, it stays at 2 grand rather than returning back to 1000 RPMs at idle.  12sDrag and I have checked to make sure that it is physically returning to idle at the throttle linkage and it is doing so, well he checked and I watched intently as he worked.  We can see it snapping back correctly but it still stays revved up.  Any suggestions?  What could be causing this?

Do the carbs have an accelerator pump? It could be using up the fuel that the pump puts in.

Not real familiar with the b6 carbs but if they are cv's, which I assume they are,  sounds like a vaccuum leak...check all your hoses for cracks or splits as well as the caps on the ports that you would use for carb sync.  If you have had the carb caps  off, check to make sure the diaphrams are seated properly and not pinched, out of location or split.

That behavior is a classic condition of running lean.  If you find no problems as in vacuum leaks, back the A/F screws out a 1/4 turn at a time and it will go away.  Did you put a pipe on it or change anything recently?  Something that could cause a lean condition?  Should not just happen without a cause but it is possible.
