B12 limiter

I have just spoken to a mate who has a GSX1400 who said he had a retardation device removed from his bike and it has made a world of difference.  It was an ignition thing I think, in the lower gears (I spose so idiots like me don't flip the f#@%*#g thing).  Did the Bandit 1200 (1996 model) ever have such a device?  Anyone had experience with this?
That's impressive,
and I'm not easily impressed.

Depends on the market. Not sure where the Oz market bikes fit into the picture, but you might want to read the ignition sections of these two links:

Hey Paul:

From what I can tell, the timing on my B-12 is not adjustable at all. (Unless I purchase a timing advancer). My B-12 does have the throttle positioning sensor, but I am trying to understand how this could affect timing. Any idea how this thing would retard timing?

By altering the output in the "black box." The signal generator tells the box where the pistons are, but the box controls when the coils fire, and in markets that use the feature, alters advance curve in some gears differently than others, likewise the TPS gives the box info to alter the curve. That's why the plate for the signal generator does not move like a non-cumputer controlled ignition system does. A timing advancer just fools the box by however many degrees it's set different from OEM, so that change is across the board.
