SS Stainless Steel lines - Front - Rear - Clutch

First of all, I would like to ask something. I fully understand the advantage of stainless steel lines for the front brakes.

But what about the clutch ? I guess it will increase the feel but there is no real need to increase strength there ? No ?

And what about the rear brake ? I mainly use my front brake anyways and, correct me if I'm wrong, but won't it be harder to tell the difference in feel since the pedal is operated with the foot as opposed to the front lever ?

I know it will also mean you won't have to change your lines ever as opposed to replacing them every 3 years or so, as recommended by the manufacturer, but stil...

Finally, what would be your recommendations of brands and place to buy the lines... I live in Canada.

I have spotted the Galfer SS lines which seems to be a general opinion good buy but I'm thinking about upgrading only the front brake lines at first.

I personally wouldn't bother with a s/s clutch line, but to each his own.

I did put a rear Galfer s/s line on the back with EBC HH pads... only because the stock rear brake is virtually useless.  It did make a nice improvement in my front/rear combined braking.

You can't ignore the bling factor of a SS clutch line.... looks very nice with the front brake line.  If I was going to eliminate one line it'd be the rear brake.  The next question is whether you do the twin line front or retain the original 3 line front configuration.  This will probably be my next mod at some point.

I got my lines from my local dealer, and he was able to get me Goodrich lines.

Quality was good, but the price in retrospect was much too high. The dealer was NOT able to access a "kit" so we had to order the individual pieces. I retained the stock splitter, so I have a three hose front set up which allowed me to reuse the factory routing and hose stays.

I chose to upgrade the rear as well, but again in retrospect, I would NOT recommend you do the rear. Just not enough of a change.

Clutch on the 600 is via cable, so no comment.

I recently did a conversion to stainless for all three systems on my B12. I was most impressed with the improved clutch action! I didn't really expect any noticeable change and only did it so it would match the looks of the front brake - and the fact the OEM rubber hoses were six years old. I went with Galfer during the group buy (and chose black sleeves, so they look almost stock - it's anti-bling  :wink: ), but Goodridge & Spiegler also have good reps. Personally, as long as the outfit making them does quality swedges and uses quality parts, the brand doesn't matter. I've seen locally made lines in the 4x4 community work just fine (even had some made myself) and there was some guy in Florida making aircraft quality bike lines and selling them on Ebay for low prices.

"Anti-bling".... that caused some coffee to be expelled through the nose.   :rofl:
