Problem with 4" clamp on Holeshot slip-on (my dumbness)
« on: July 03, 2005, 10:26:21 PM »
I put the 17" Holeshot slip-on on my 2005 Bandit 1200s just now. I'm confused - I can't for the life of me get the 4", rear clamp to tighten around the muffler. The instructions warn you NOT to "install the 4" muffler clamp with one ear on each side of the rubber mounting grommet, doing so will not tighten the muffler properly."

Well - I can't seem to figure out how to get around that - the "ear" of the clamp seem to need to be on the outside of said rubber mounting grommet - either that or I need to somehow stuff the rubber grommet through the hole in the ear...

I always seem to spend more time installling these things than I intend - something like this always happens! :-) But it is always a learning experience and actually this is really my first mod.

I'm definitely NOT going to install the stage 2 jet kit myself - or the SS brake lines I guess.

If anyone can clue my brainlessness in to how I can get the white 4" clamp to actually sit properly I'd surely appreciate it. I'm not sure I should ride it before I resolve this - unless there is supposed to be room between the clamp and the muffler?

What you do is bring both ears of the clamp together and then put the bolt through both ears and then through the mounting hole with the rubber grommet. The clamp will be tight against the can. Also, that clamp is not white. There is a plastic film on the clamp like you see on new car hood to prevent scratching. You need to peel that off as well. Hope this helps. :beers:

I would probably never have figured out it wasn't white... I guess I'm a real dope. Dale got back to me and so did some other nice folks from the max-suz board - so now I can go outside and fix it! But nobody but you mentioned the tape! Thanks so much for that point.
