Disk brake trouble

I'm in need of your collective wisdom.
Finally took the bandit for a test ride yesterday, thinking worst case scenario I loose the front brake...guess what lost the front brake.
Bleeding had gone really well, and there was great pressure on the lever. However after the wheel turns a couple times...it needs to be pumped three times or so to grab again. Now I'm thinking thats a warped/bent rotor....any suggestions?
I just bleed them again (because thats so easy to do) got no air out of one side and only a two tiny bubbles out of the other. Spin the wheel on the stand (it does not turn freely) and guess what, no pressure again.
Any suggestions welcome...
My fears are coming true...I think.

Also it's getting pretty hard to search old posts with the topics not being separated like they were and everyones details in their posts pretty much makes any thread a hit for brake or generally upgraded items like that. So if this IS a repost I'm sorry... :duh:

Well. a warped rotor would cause quite a "shimmy" when you applied the brakes.

You are saying that the brakes DO work, but you have to pump them several times to get them to grab?

Did it do this before you worked on them?

What exactly did you do with the brakes... change pads? Have the calipers off? Drain it completly before re-filling?

A good description of events might help...  :wink:

yes wasn't very detailed was it.
The bike was written of by the insurance company...never rode it before installing the galfer brake lines (one of those it's still cold out I want to do something now things).
They don't leak (as far as I can tell), HOWEVER the rotor DOES have a pretty decent scratch in it, enough that when the bike is on the stand it makes it hard to turn.
Yes the brakes do work, if anything they tend to grab a bit even after you let go of the handle, time to clean out the calipers. Pressure is good, it feels good too, just the way it's supposed to feel.

Ok, glad you found that. Did you feel a shimmy when you applied the brakes on your test ride?

I'd be looking out for other problems even after you replace the rotors, simply because it's been crashed. Anything could have gotten tweaked, bent, dinged, etc...

I suggest you put a post in the "Parts/Gear for Sale/Wanted forum... I see you already contacted OkBandit... good luck!

My knowledge/experience is limited to motorcycle mechanics in general... stuff that applies to most any bike (such as brakes  :wink: ). When it comes to Bandits specifically, just about anybody on this board knows more than I do. I've owned a lot of bikes, but my B1250 is my first Bandit!

Anyway,  :congrats: on finally getting her on the road! Must feel great... she's come a long way, baby!  :motorsmile:

Hey! Stetracer just now put an ad in "Parts for Sale"... he's got a set of rotors for $50!

Plus a whole bunch of other parts, including front forks, calipers etc...

oh I'm not overly troubled by the rotors being bent, it sets me back a little, but realistically thats what I've been expecting. This forum rocks!
