Recommendations on a new front and rear sprocket and chain
« on: June 28, 2005, 01:03:44 AM »
Hello,
My 1G B12's chain is starting to give me a lot of chatter while riding, especially when I move my left leg from under the tank, I can really hear it.  I believe the previous owner changed the chain once already, but I think my sprockets are also worn (the bike has 37K miles on it).  So from what I've read, its good practice to replace the chain when replacing the sprockets.
That said, I have been looking at bikebandit.com for my chain and sprocket options while looking at posts on banditalley for advice.  There seem to be quite a few options! :?:
Could anyone recommend a chain, and front and rear sprockets that won't break the bank but also won't sacrifice quality?   My bandit's chain, and sprocket setup is stock and I would like to stick with the stock number of front and rear teeth on the sprockets.  I am hoping to spend under $170, which I think is do-able.
As always, thanks for the feedback!

Stock gearing is 15/110,I prefer 15/113,but others that do more touring went the other way and geared up. RK- GB50MFOZ1 is the chain that comes stock,EK is good,DID is good. I just replaced my chain and sprockets myself, Sunstar wich is a good brand for sprockets and I went with a Tsunami o-ring (Sigma) chain.
I'm not much of a mail order guy, I have a buddy who owns a bike shop. If there are any small shops in your area that you can look through the catolog(like Parts Unlimited) you can see the diferent chain strength and cost. My chain list at a bit under $200,but I got it for $120. I'm not sure what the sprockets cost, I just run a on-going tab.I'm guessing around $50 for the pair? I did'nt look at the price, just told what I wanted to order.

Stock gearing is 15/45 (3:1). I suspect you went to 15/48?

Pull'in the boat to the lake on the weekends!  And smooth operator, I hope you don't have many guns, you seem to be a little "trigger happy" with the submit button!    :stickpoke:
