Service schedule
« on: June 10, 2007, 09:28:38 AM »
Can anyone tell me at what intervals should I service my 03 B 12S. Currently has 28000k's on it. Also when are the major services due, and what is involved in them.

Thanks Cookie.

Did you not get an owners manual with your bike?
It's all spelled out in there.

Mine's @ home and I'm not, but off-the cuff, in MILES:

Daily - Tire pressure, tread wear, leaks, lights, general condition

600 - Initial service - oil & filter change, valve adjustment check, check everything for tightness, check chain & sprockets (adjust if req'd).

Every 3,000 - Same as above, less valve check, plus check air filter and replace if needed. (Actually, the book says the oil filter only needs to be changed every-other oil change, but most of us change it every time.)

Every 7,500 - Check valves for adjustment. Realistically, the valve adjustment almost never moves after the 7,500 mile mark, so some people may stretch this out if after the 15K check they're unchanged. (I do mine annually and put ~10K miles a year on the bike.)

Every 2 years - change the fluid in the brake & clutch reserviors. Change fork oil. Suzuki says change the rubber hydraulic hoses every 2 years, too - but I don't know anyone who does that. If you do, you should replace with stainless braided lines so you can forget about the rubber hoses.

There's a schedule for the swingarm, suspension, steering head bearings to be inspected, replaced if needed & lubed - but I don't remember that one from the book.

Thanks for your help Paul. Just bought the bike second hand (28000km )and the service booklet stops after 24000km. All the services have been carried out at 6000km intervals, so just checking if the 30000km service was a major or minor service. If just an oil/filter change I'll do it myself, but if its something more involved I'll take it to the bike shop.

Thanks Cookie

I took apart the linkage, swingarm, etc last winter, after 4 seasons and 25,000 km (15,600 miles). It was all still clean, decently lubed, etc.

On your 03, I would do the following, in addition to std service items: (oil, filters, etc)
1. Check the valve clearances, so you know where their at.
2. Change/Flush brake and clutch fluids.
3. Change/flush fork oil.
4. Sync/balance carbs. Drill out the air screws if you remove the carbs and set them at 2-1/2 to 3 turns out.
5. Make sure your brake pads still have life in them.
