Shifts are very hard...Esp from N to 1st

Got a G2 B6, and since i got the bike a couple of years ago, and it has gotten worse.  When shifting from N to 1st the clutch feels like I only have the clutch pulled in part way and the bike bucks forward. But No matter how i adjust the cable it only varies the grab point but never makes the initial shift into gear softer...???  Is it time to replace or rebuild my clutch? Or is there an adjustment behind the case cover that I can mess with that will help make this problem go away.  Even after the bike is warmed up its still a stiff CLUNK into 1st gear....up shifting gets a little smoother when its warm but from N to 1st is the pits.  Any feed back would be greatly appreciated..!! A couple of quick suggestions..... make sure the clutch cable is not stretched beyond serviceable limits.  Once it's in gear with the clutch lever pulled it there shouldn't be any tendency to creep forward.  The other thing is to pull the clutch lever and wait about 3 -5 seconds before shifting into first.... see if that improves things.

If the engine is off, the bike in first gear, can you pull in the clutch an push it without the engine trying to turn over? If not, something is dragging in the clutch.

Like tx said, make sure the cable is not stretched too far, also you can clean out the release assembly behind the sprocket cover.

Otherwise, it's possible that its warped clutch plates and/or worn clutch basket.

How many MILES on your bike... and how hard have you been riding it? Wheelies? Hard shifts?
If any of these, I would recommend examining your clutch basket. I recently posted a report on my B12... where I found notching on the clutch-basket edges where the plate-tangs contact. I filed the edges smooth (careful not to remove too much material), and now it shifts MUCH smoother.
Consider it. If you aren't that good a mechanic.. you may have to spring for a new clutch basket... about $250.. plus labor.
