speedo not working
« on: April 12, 2006, 01:41:41 PM »
I had my bike out for the first time the other day since getting it in a psudeo riding condition and the speedo wasn't working. when I turn on the bike the needle moves and does its self check thing but when I go it doesnt register anything. I tried taking off the sensor and wiping it down to no avail. any other ideas on where to go with this to narrow down the cause of this so I don't waste any money on a speedo I don't need?

Since the needle sweeps, I'd have to say the speedo itself is OK and your problem lies between the speedo head and the trigger. If the trigger is there, it's probably OK, I don't think there's anything that go wrong with them, so that would leave it to a wiring issue or a sensor issue.

It turned out to be wiring. When I got the bike there was a red and a pink wire disconnected from the back(pulled out) I naturally put the longer wire out further from the shorter wire thinking that this was the way it was supposed to go. It wasn't. I just had the thing tore apart took those 2 wires and switched them around. Bam it works. ..... now if I can only figure out why the nutral and the high beam lights don't illuminate I will be in business!

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and speculate you still have a wiring problem since the 2G bikes use LED's to light up everything on the dash and they tend to last a long, long, time.
