Hope someone can tell me the spring rate,s of a gsxr750 rear shock and a b1200 96 rear shock.Have fitted gsxr shock but am finding spring a bit soft.So if the original is stiffer it would be a cheep fix.

The Race Tech web page lists the spring rates for certain years and models of shocks. See here:

But, they do not seem to list any of the Bandit spring rates, possibly because Bandit shocks are not rebuildable, so no one is replacing springs.

I am also very curious about Bandit spring rates. I have a 1994 GSX-R 750 shock waiting for installation. It's rate (per Racetech) is 6.2 kg/mm. I have heard this will be a little soft for the B12, especially with luggage (which I have). I'm a lightweight at 175 pounds, so I don't need a lot of spring.

Can the stock Bandit spring be installed on this shock? I think some folks have done this. Any tips? Would I be better off with some other spring? Race Tech sells stiffer springs for the GSX-R shock, but they're $110, more than three times what I paid for the shock itself...

I've gone through a lot of searches, and have not found the OEM spring rates for the B12 anywhere yet... Little help?

I have 98 Bandit to which I have fitted the GSXR shock. The standard spring is too soft and you will also have too much suspension travel. I weigh 65 kilos (about 145 lbs) and my wife 47 kg (about 105 lbs) after bottoming out my hugger on the undertray I decided to investigate. I pulled the shock unit out and took it to my local motorcycle guru. He modified the bump stop by turning one out of neoprene and adding about 10 mm to its length, revalved the shock absorber and fitted an Eibach spring rated at 8.5 kg/mm. I have set the sag on the rear at about 15 mm which is pretty firm but not too bad, however with my wife on the back it is excellent, having around 45 mm of sag. As I am not allowed out alone it is a pretty good set up. Eibach part no. is 690.0085.1 this is a GSXR 600 spring.

I also had the forks serviced with new oil and dust seals and fitted a set of White Power springs. Don't know the ratings of these however but it feels a lot better than stock and does not dive under brakes as before. Brakes a Hybusa 6 pot calipers which I think are the same as gen2 Bandit calipers.

At last got the spring sorted,after much research and a bit of luck I have found a 10.2kg/mm spring witch fits perfectly.Would you believe its a XR350 stock spring! I am a big bloke and this is just right,static sag 15mm loaded 30mm soaks up little bumbs and handles big hits well.As the stock spring had to be on max preload with dampening wound up just to cope.This spring is on preload 2 and comp dampening set low.
