sproket questions.
« on: May 21, 2012, 02:24:02 PM »
I am wanting to get a little more acceleration, so I was thinking of going up 2-3 in the rear or 1 down in the front.

If I got up in the rear do I need a new chain or is there enough there already. I am about half-way on the adjusment now. I know that I can easily do down in the front, but it puts more stress on the chain or something like that. My question is the wear really that bad or more just theory.

Any advice is apperciated.

Moving from a standard 15F/45R to a 14F/45R won't change the wear appreciably.

Moving to a 13 or smaller(like a 12) front can start to increase the wear.

I would try the 14 front first. You can decide if you want to change to a 15/47 or 15/48 the next time you need a chain.

hey I just noticed; PM replyed to MP, any who. my own personal xperience in using a 14 front was that it showed no appreciable wear in appx.  3000mi of use but upon removal chain didn't bend as it used to, loosing flexibility. but that was in a modified 1216, Didnt notice what you were installing it on but they really make a 1200 a wheelie machine. I went back to a 15 in front, not wanting to loose mpg or chain life since everything is so xpensv.  good luck MP

I happen to have a brand new 14T sitting around, and with no Bandit, it's not doing me any good.  Interested?
