Front Tyre: 120/60 ZR-17M/C (58W)

I came across this while reading the spec's on the 2006 Bandit. My 2002 takes a 120/70 ZR 17 Tire. (Which is 10 mm wider)

Interesting enough, a local Suzuki shop recomended I go with a 120/60 front tire on my last purchase, claiming the bike will turn somewhat faster.

Just thought I would share that with the board.

I'm sure you probably meant 'taller' as opposed to 'wider'... but just to clarify for those who don't know...

The number '60' in 120/60/17 means the profile of the tire relative to the width... not the width itself - so in this case the profile of the tire would 60% of 120mm, or 72mm.

Thus it is a 'shorter' tire than our 120/70/17's, not narrower.

The width on both tires is still the same - 120mm.

The 2006 Bandit 1200 seems to have been somewhat redesigned, fuel tank has been shortened, seat width has been shortened and redesigned, new instrumentation, fairing changes, the headlights are stacked instead of each side, and they are offering it with optional ABS, from the pictures, it's a sharp looking bike.

You are correct my friend. I was not paying much attention here! I am now curious as to why they went this route.

I have sat on a 2006 B-12 which was sitting in the back room at my local dealer. I can tell you there is little changed with the new B-12 other than cosmetics. Sit on the new B-12, close your eyes and then open them fast, and you will swear your sitting on a 2005. From the drivers seat, you cant really tell the difference.

The new B-12 still uses the same frame, engine & forks. The version I sat on did not have ABS to my knowledge, but I do know its available in Europe, not sure about Canada.

It's a good looking bike but nothing is new and off the wall about it. I would not trade my 2nd gen Bandit in on one.

Wouldn't this make the speedo error even worse on 2nd gen bikes. If the profile of the tire is lower, the tire will spin faster.

No, it wouldn't do that on a 2G since they get their speedo reading off the countershaft sprocket. Changing the REAR tire's size would have an effect though.

It would change the speedo on a 1G since they get their speed info from the front wheel.

According to a press release from Suzuki Australia the swing arm is 45mm longer, 5mm larger diameter front axle, 8 mm larger diameter rear axle and it looks from the photo that it may have gone back to 4 piston front calipers but I could be wrong on that point. Still no fuel injection.
