Just did my break-in valve inspection- app 700 miles. All but 4 of the 16 valves were tight and required adjustment. I set intake at .006 and exhaust at .008. Also adjusted carbs for a slight lean condition (Ivan's kit). Took the bike for a spin afterward- felt great and flat out hauled a$$.

Absolutely best it has ever run at 75 degrees temp (elevation 600 ft). I am back to 4 turns out on mixture screws and middle clip on needle with the shim this time.

It was a more of a pain in the a$$ to access the cam cover than I thought it was gonna be. This was even with PAIR removed. Don't plan on doing it again until about 4000 miles.

Damn good looking bike ya got there.... :wink:   I wouldn't bother checking the valves until 7,500 miles FWIW.   :bigok:

Thanks for the complement.

Old habits die hard. It's hard to believe 7500 miles for a manual tappet motor. I am a GS guy and used to checking clearance every 2500 miles on my 750. I don't rack up the miles anymore like some of you guys, 4000 miles is two years of riding for me.

This thing will have hotter cams by next summer anyway.

Liking the B12 more and more everyday.

you need to take it out more work on getting rid of those chicken strips.  There still looking pretty big from here!

how far did you drop your forks in your tripple clams to install those    clip-ons?   Do you get any head shakes when coming out of long fast swippers?

"Chicken strips" must be a new term, I don't remember it back in the early 80's when I started riding sport bikes. The stock suspension/Michelin's are less than desirable for all out sport riding and my days of dropping a perfectly good bike out of sheer stupidity are long gone. Been there and done that- been to the hospital more than once.

Dunlop 208ZR's and suspension tuning are coming in the Spring. Then we will see what this girl can do.

The fork tubes were raised 1.5in. No headshakes at all, not even when exiting high speed "sweepers".
