What is the correct Idle RPM's?
« on: November 22, 2005, 08:56:01 PM »
I believe my Idle is a little low, its at about 900RPM's

I was curious whats a good idle for a 2000 Bandit 1200S with a stage 2 Jet kit Yoshi pipe and K&N Pod Filters.

I have a large brass screw under the carbs.

Is that the idle speed adjuster??

Not sure where it is on the 1G, but on the 2G it's a black plastic knurled knob just below carb #1 (the one on the left).

I thought the manual stated idle should be @ 1300 RPM'S... that's where mine is set.

Manual states 1300, I think it offers better oiling of the top end. However it does make more of a "clunk" when putting it into gear. I set mine at 1200 to eliminate some of the "clunk"

My manual states the idle should be 1200-1400 rpm when the motor is warm.

it seems really high..  i always set mine a lot lower before i found out why the recomend it that high. Like someone else stated, it provides more oil to the top end of the engine at idle. You get a little more chunk dropping it into gear, thats the only downside ive noticed.

The idle IS higher than your typical car, but then the redline is quite a but higher than your typical car, too.
