Ergos of '07 1250 Bandit vs. 1st generation '04 Yamaha FZ1?
« on: September 27, 2007, 08:26:47 AM »
I am considering replacing my '04 FZ1 with the new 1250 Bandit.  I would be doing alot of 200 mile days and my old knees are a concern (32" inseam).

I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with both bikes, and if the legs have a little more room on the bandit?

Just sold an '02 FZ-1, simultaneous w/purchasing my Bandit.  Knees don't give me much problem, so I can't say I'm real focused on that, but the bikes seem similar to me, perhaps a bit more room on the 1250S.

I'm told that the Bandit seat is adjustable for height, is typically delivered set in the lower position.  I understand it's not a quick change, suggestions that you might ask your dealer to effect it, but that would provide a bit of extra legroom.  Perhaps just enough to make it livable.

Thanks for the input Garth.

I saw that seat adjustment on this forum.  Perhaps it would help.

Still undecided.  As you know, the first gen FZ1 is a great bike, and I still like it.

Agreed - I really only had one issue with the FZ  - heat.  July and August in St. Louis can bring a succession of ninety degree days, and the humidity aint so great either.  The Yamaha kicked out enough engine heat that anything over 85 it became an issue.  10 degrees above that and it was downright unpleasant.  Got to the point where I didn't want to ride on hot days.  Between work and family and whatever else, get-out-jail-free-and-go-ride days are too precious to give back because of something like that.  Rode my FZ down to the Suzuki dealer on a scorcher Saturday morning, took a spin on the Bandit, noted immediately it was a lot less toasty than the Yamaha.  One thing led to another and............I'm Bandit-ing once again.

I spent a season on an '02 FZ1 and for my frame -- 5'9" 175 pounds -- I much prefer the ride posture of the Bandit. Long rides are more comfortable, better seat, better protection, and better passenger comfort too. YMMV

I rode an FZ! before i rode my bandit, Handds down the bandit was the clear winner. Better ergos. My wrists start feeling the added pressure on teh FZ1 real quick. Teh FZ1 advertises a bit more Horsepower, But torque is what really gets it done and the bandit was a clear winner in the performance department as well. I love my 1250

If you want more space for your legs, you can turn footrests 180 degrees.(4cm)

Great and thanks. I had to blow up the picture to 800x800 and will try and make the change later. Every little bit helps, especially if I have a long leg female passenger LOL.
Wonder of this works with the passenger pegs?

If that's not enough, you can try footpegs from a Buell.

The interest is mostly in the fact that its free. Love it when someone has a creative thought that saves money.

I'm just sayin' if that's not enough for ya, the Buell pegs are an option. They aren't free, but they're not very expensive either, IIRC.

Relax, I wasn't discounting your recommendation, just trying to point out a little creative credit. :popcorn2:
