Holeshot Stage 2 on 1250 Bandit
« on: September 08, 2011, 02:44:38 AM »
Hi, I'm new to the site and can't wait to share. I just installed my Holeshot Stage 2 after contemplating Stage 1. I was concerned about any negative effects of removing the secondaries. I am very happy I went the Stage 1 for the following reasons:
1- No more low speed surging and stumbling. I didn't realize just how bad it was until it was gone.
2-The throttle response was always pretty good, but I always had the feeling that when I twisted the throttle that I was asking the bike to respond. Now I'm TELLING it! No lag at all, response is instant.
I can't say anything about mileage yet..... the novelty will have to wear off. Right now the right wrist is getting a work out and I can't get this silly grin off my face.

Instead of removing all but the perimeter, as suggested by Dale Walker, I decided to map it out so I could remove about 90% of it by drilling a series of holes with my hole saw, using 2 different sizes. It leaves a little structural integrity and would prevent any paper or plastic from being sucked up against the filter, not that would ever happen.

No.... there is no dyno in the small town I live in. Almost all of my riding is 2up with very large non aerodynamic 45L Givi side bags, a 55L rear bag and a tall windshield. The increase in power is very significant, specially above 3K RPM.

Yes, speedo tuner (same as a Speedo Healer), GIPRO with ATRE and a Delkevic touring slip on for the "GO" and Gaffer SS Brake lines on the front for some better "WHOA". I would highly recommend the braided SS brake lines...... a huge difference. With the factory lines I could easily squeeze the lever to the grip, now I can't even get it within a 1/2". Much better feel. I also added a Suzuki Gel seat, which is much better than the stock. I had sent my stock seat to Spencer for the "touring upgrade", but it's a little too tall for me. I'll probably have to send it back to get it cut down a little, or just sell it. I also ordered the new Bridgestone Battlax 023-GT tires, but won't install them until spring. I will also put in the Dyna Beads when I mount the tires. The Air Box mod works, but you can definitely hear the intake when you open up the throttle now.... much more intake noise under load, not bad at all when cruising at constant throttle. I like it!

Wow, 25 hp from a simple kit that almost anyone can install is pretty impressive! Were there other mods involved in getting the 25hp, or just the Holeshot stage 2?

Sport Rider mag here in the states did a 1250 with the stage 2 and got 27 extra horse. There bike started off with a base run of 93.7 and ended up at 120.9rwh.

Something which I have overlooked WRT both the 1200 & 1250 Bandits is their exhausts - the headers.
They are actually double walled. The internal diameter is alot smaller than you think. Peeps have reported excellect results with changing out the headers. Check out the holeshot stage 2 + headers graph. Really wakes the 1250 up over 7,000rpm.
This is what I'm currently putting my efforts into getting.
2006 B12 112.5 Mains, adjustable needles (full rich), std pilots 3.75 turns out, K&N, airbox 1.5" mod, Staintune exh.
