Opening up factory header

Before I ordered a new header ,thought I would see what I could do
with the stock one.I had already removed the weld at the exhaust port
on the header.Today I cut the header into workable pieces to see if I
could get the inner tubing out(I CAN AND DID) almost ready to start welding
it back up. The inner tube is 1'' ID
               The outer tube is almost 1 1/2 ID--Look at the pics/

Got it back on the bike last night and took a short ride.
All i can say is WOW!!! I'll get some pics later where i used 1 1/2''muffler
pipe to get rid of the factory collector(Heavy)but I torched out all the inside liners to the end of the pipe,where it is only a shell--"Whatever you see on
the outside is whats on the inside"
Bike lost nothin anywhere!!!Big time difference pulling up the rpm's to
the rev limiter.I have to resync this morn. cause i would think that
it would be off but thats quik and easy.
Anyway I'll get some pics later :beers:

Hi rworm,
Most interesting to read, you sayin the down pipe has a 1" pipe stuck up inside the 1.5"? could you see how far up it goes, it must kill the motor. My bandit 400's got 1.2" inside diameter pipe, so bigger than the 12. Im building a pipe at the moment and going up to 1.375" od giving me 1.28 id, if you into muckin about with the pipes yourself take a look at the SPD exhaust site as they do loads of kit parts for home builders.

 :thumb: Wow impressive and to think some spent $800 for what they already had underneath them. Does it collect more heat and please re-post in the future to let us know if they do well over time and not burn through at the bends. With those inside restrictive tubes no wonder there was locked up power. Congratulations looks like you let the real cat is out of the secret bag.

Yes 1" pipe inside 1 1/2"---Starts at the head and goes to the collector.
Very restrictive

Thanks CWO--They are made out of SS so i would think that they will
last very well--Can't tell any difference in heat--And the best part is
I'm only out a little time :grin:

Maybe you can share with us where you had to cut each segment to slide the inner's out. Since its made of SS its defiantly worth it. I wonder if I could get away with spot welding and brazing the cuts. I have an arc welder and stuff that thin is very hard to weld with stick.
