power commander problem

I bought a 2007 Bandit 1250 that had a power commander 3 in it. I downloaded the software and maps to my laptop and hooked it up to the bike. I assume having the ignition on is enough to interface with the command module.

Anyway I hooked it up and it said new hardware found, loading new hardware etc.
I turned the ignition on and it said not communicating with the power commander, then the computer blue screened and started to do a continual reboot.

I wasn't expecting this, any ideas?

It gets pretty bad when you reply to your own problem! For some reason I was able to get rid of the blue screen. The power commander needs to be on to interface with the PC. It will come on momentarily when the ignition is turned on but will not stay on. The bike needs to be running to see what map is in there. Turns out the previous owner had what was listed as a stock map in there even though it has a Yoshi pipe on it. I checked this map against the stock bike map on the PC website. It is a lot different then the stock map with heavier fuel mix at higher throttle % and RPM's. Maybe he had this bike on a dyno and set it up this way, who knows.

I guess I'll save this map and try the recommended map for the Yoshi pipe and see how she runs.

Not yet, weather has been crappy, 5 inches of snow but it's gone so I'll try it in the next few days. I'll save the map that is in there and put in the std PC Yoshi map. I talked to the tech at PC and he told me some people play around with the map settings could be the reason.

OK, I put the std Yoshi map in and went for a quick ride. I can't tell the difference so I'll leave the Yoshi map in. To be honest with you I am so new at this I probably can't tell the difference. This bike has so much torque it doesn't matter to me.  

I do have a question though about vibration. I notice some vibration coming in the grips around 3-4000 rpm. It doesn't seem to get any worse with more rpm's. Just curious is this normal. Keep in mind the last road bike I owned was 30 plus years ago.

I'll be coming up your way in August for Seafair. My sister lives in Federal Way. We're going down to Bend OR  for some Mtn biking.

78 degrees here today, did a bunch of riding !!

Last night I took the gas tank off and noticed a 1" diameter hole in the top of the air box. Is this normal?  If not it may explain why the map that came with this bike was running so rich at the higher rpm's. I hope I didn't do any damage by going back the stock Yoshi pipe map that run's leaner.

I guess my options are to plug the hole somehow or go back the map that came with the bike.

I've never seen the 1250's airbox in person, but if it looks anything at all like the parts fiche picture (which I certianly hope it does), then there was not be a hole in the top of the box when it left the plant.

You should be able to just duct tape over the hole for experimental purposes.

read up on holeshot performance's dale walker as he mods the 1250S...

I'm guessing he wanted to do a few of the performance mods dale did.  Dale knows exactly what he's doing,  but... in your case,  *shrug*

Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out. I know the previous owners name and where he lives but his phone number is unlisted. probably could have avoided some of this hassle. I plugged the hole put it back together. seems to run okay, there is a kind of a weird vibrating/rattling sound around 3-4,000 that I don't remember but otherwise ran well.
