Feel sorry for those NSR/RGV riders. I know it was hot in demand for the Ls and Full Licensed restricted riders..... but now, theya are not allowed.

I am now off my L for 3 months now, so that mean I can get some 400s or 600s now.. but they are not on the "Approved" list ... MMMmmmmm..... :yikes:

Yet the GSF400 is not...  :duh:

Dread - do you have a licensing scheme up there similar to Oz & UK?
I thought the Canadian provinces had m/c licensing schemes similar to the US states - where a new rider can start off on anything they want, including a turbocharged Hayabusa.

Hey Paul,
Currently in Alberta you can ride anything you want once you have passed your motorcycle test(Class 6). Even scarier is the fact that if you have a learners permit (Class 7) you can ride anything you want as long as you're 16 and are riding with a licensed rider :duh:

From the Service Alberta Driver's License web site...

Class 6 Licence permits an operator to drive:

    * A motorcycle or a moped
    * All motor vehicles under Class 5, for learning only

The minimum learning or licencing age is 16.

Requirements: Written test and vision screening and a road test for applicants with a Class 7 or if no licence presented. Written test, vision screening and skill test for applicants with a Class 5 or better.

Vehicle for road test: motorcycle without sidecar.

Please click here for:

    * On-line handbook 'Operator's Licence Information for Motorcycles, Mopeds and Power Bicycles'

    * 'Power Bicycles, Mopeds, Motorcycles, Mobility Aids, Off-Highway Vehicles and Prohibited Miniature Vehicles' information booklet

Class 7 Licence permits an operator to drive:

    * A moped
    * A motor vehicle referred to in the Class 5 category, as a learner only
    * A motorcycle, as a learner only, if the operator is at least 16 years of age

The minimum learning or licencing age is 14.

Requirements: written test and vision screening.

Please click here for:

    * On-line handbook 'Basic Licence Driver's Handbook'
    * On-line handbook 'Operator's Licence Information for Motorcycles, Mopeds and Power Bicycles'
    * Practice class 7 Knowledge Tests

A long overdue change to the law :clap:
Banning L  riders from RGV's and NSR 250's is a step in the right direction.
Here's the perfect example. In the very early eighties, my two rides RD 250lc yam, and the HD fxwg, my then wife could ride legally the RD, yet not the HD.....
Now with very little work done the RD put out more horse power than the HOG.
And the RD was so schizo, to ride :yikes:, and the HD was like riding around in an armchair.

Well done to the Vic government :thumb:, pity the change is only 30 years too late. :annoy: :duh:

BTW I do know how hard a NSR250RR goes, had one as part of the stable till about 4 years ago. And every time I rode it it was a  :yikes: but fun. :motorsmile: but had to be ridden, and to be ridden, it was licence loss stuff every time :trustme:
And not the machine to be put in the hands of a novice.

I'm sure you will find, it will only effect those riders who, get their licence or learner permit after the start date, of the law changes. ( It is against the constitution to back date such law changes ) It will not effect those who already own such bikes and hold Vic licences and L Plates, but having said that, should they lose their ticket for being naughty, and we all know, that one mistake on an L plate of probationary licence, means goodbye ticket, it could get a little tricky.

Bandit has sad eyes now, he used to like riding up the snowys, good thing we got some shyte hot roads down here. :motorsmile:
Mind you I have been pull over to many times to count, over 30 odd years with me best mates on the tank, only once did I end having to go to court. I asked the magistrate, to hold the lead while I started the bike, he then ruled in my favor as the dog showed that he really really wanted to go for a ride too. :rofl:
And as I comply with RSPCA rules that he is restrained, with a body harness and lead, the cops carn't touch us unless the dog in showing distress. And frankly the only distress he suffers is when I go for a ride and he don't. :motorsmile:
And most cops think its a blast to see us carving up a mountain road :thumb:
