My 7/12
« on: July 24, 2005, 08:34:48 AM »
Hi all,

I was a member on the on older BanditAlleyBBS (when it was on ezboard).
I had a black/silver B4.
I sold it a year ago when I was building my 7/12 project bike.
So here it is.
Not finihsed yet but road worthy, and I'm very happy as it is.

Some other pics (taken during building) are here:

Awsome, Kris!  Anyway, we could get a better shot of the whole tank?  Looks pretty wild.

Ahem,

The tank actually is about to be repainted (black) along with the front muddie and the missing (on the pics) cowling.

In the buildup pics you have a heat shield on the cylinders for the carbs, but in the pics with you on it, it looks like it's gone. Why?

BTW - looks like it is coming along nicely.  :bigok:  :beers:

Yes the heat shield was originally planned and was put on before the carbs.
I have 38mm carbs from watercooled model, and to fit these I had to replace outer carb boots with another set of inner ones (to make for slightly different spacing), that alone wouldn't be a problem - actually the shield was made according to the actual carb spacing, but fitting 38mm carbs into 36 mm boots made them expand too much which left no space for the clamps.
So the shield had to go.
I'll think about another solution - maybe two smaller shields - the one I had was touching the oil hoses.
Or maybe one day I'll get me a flatslides or Yoshi heat sheild/airbox.

Anyway if anyone's curious here's the short spec:
91 GSXR 750: frame, oil cooler
90 GSXR 1100: oil hoses (only metal ends, original hoses replaced with stainless steel braided PTFE ones)
92 GSXR 1100: tank, seats, grab rail, rear cowling (to be modified), Devil exhaust system
93 GSXR 750W: carbs (dual BMC air filters), swingarm, rear brake
99 GSXR 750: clipons, switches, clutch lever, front wheel (Hayabusa spindle)
99 GSF 1200: main loom (shortened and modified to suit), CDI, horns, rear wheel, carb boots
00 GSX 1200 engine
01 GSF 600: sprocket cover (mechanical clutch release, one off sprocket nut with speedo rotor)
01 GSXR 750: front brakes, top yoke, headlight, front loom, mirrors, front mudguard
02 GSXR 1000: front forks (one off bottom yoke and stem), rear shock absorber (one off adjustable top mount), headlight/cowling bracket, clocks, front cowling (to be modifed)

Thank you Mr Suzuki for the "lego" toys  :thanks:

The carbs are set basically stock for 750W donor but with 155 mains.
The plugs look good, and it pulls cleanly from the bottom to the top.
No dyno yet, and some further jetting/setting up to be done in the future.
Don't know the consumption also, but it doesn't look to be extremely thirsty.

I feel sorry for the poor dealership mechanic that has to figure out parts for that bandixr.   :duh:
But judging from your work, I'd bet the only mechanic you need is yourself!

I would think twice about repainting that tank.  I am kinda digging the "Saved By The Bell" theme!

Nah, I don't like the painting
The quality is so so, and it looks like off a h*nda.
It definitely need repainting .
Semi-gloss black with chrome or silver Suzuki "S" badge.
Ideally the "S" should be black too and embosed, but not sure if the painter can do it.
Kinda stealth looking.

I haven't weighed it yet, but I will for sure.
_Should_ be significantly lighter than B12 or GSXR1100 - lighter (ally) frame, lighter USD forks (they seem to weigh half as much as Busa's), lightweight headlight and clocks, cut down fairing.
But we'll see.

Why not go with the "S" badges found on most of the '05 Zuks (that aren't cruisers). You could paint it black to match the tank and it would have the raised embossed look you're after.

So here are some pics of my 7/12in wedding trim - hence the flowers.
It was my wedding as well as honeymoon-trip-to-Prague vehicle.

Other pics are here:

The tank has been repainted, but I'm not happy with DIY matt black so I let a pro do the job again (glossy black this time).
Also I fitted cut down and modified 1000K2 front fairing, it sits to much tilted backwards now, but even if I correct this, the screen is too flat and too low, so it will be replaced with double bubble one for better wind protection.
