« on: October 18, 2006, 03:28:09 PM »
can someone please tell me if this is a good deal for tires? This is my first bike and I need to change my tires soon.... don't know much about bike tires...

http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=&L2=&L3=&L4=&item=CGC_PAR_1430700-PAR_1430400_G

it's for the pirelli diablo tires. they ship them for 10$ and the PAIR (front and rear) costs 150$ for a B6...120/160

It's great deal if you want a short-mileage supersport tire.

For mileage of 5000+ miles... I recommend these...

can someone tell me what is the deal with the tire size? the 160 in my B6 seems kind of small to me (I am a very big guy)... can I just put a wider one on the stock rim? say a 170 or even 180?? what are the issues?

A wider tire will slow the bikes ability to turn. (The #1 reason why the B6 is more nimble than the B12 in the twisties.)

A wider tire usually needs a wider rim. You CAN put a 170 on the B6's rear rim if you feel you just have to have a wider tire. A 180 will not fit the stock B6 rim. You also need to pay attention to clearance issues when trying to put a wider tire on that what was meant originally. You have to be sure the tire won't contact the chain, swingarm and the brake torque rod.

You aren't going to increase the payload of the bike with a wider tire, the stock tire is already cabable of carrying a heavier load than the bike is rated for.

thanks! so I think I will stick with the 160 stock size. The only problem I had was the looks...

One final question... the thread left in my current tires seems ok the problem is that I see small cracks on the surface of the tire inside the grooves... is that a sign that I should replace the tires...? (BTW it's a 02 B6 and has low miles but original tires) so it's not that the tires have reached their mile limit but more like their time limit....

:congrats:  you hit that one dead center!
Sounds like your tires are showing signs of dry rot.
Time for new ones.
