With a fairing, the unavoidable fact is that the wind flowing over the windscreen is accelerated and turbulent. Unless the windscreen is VERY LARGE, or the rider "tucks" like a roadracer, the inevitable result is buffeting and higher velocity air at helmet level. For a tall rider, this is a prescription for neck fatigue and lower back discomfort. Granted, fairings do keep the cold off and extend the riding season but, for me, a naked bike where I can ride in a steady undisturbed airstream without the buffeting at approximately groundspeed is far more comfortable. A slight forward lean allows my torso to "float" on the airstream and actually reduces pressure on my arms, wrists. Try a naked bike at 65-75 MPH and see for yourself. I just don't think you will be able to get away from wind buffeting unless you "tuck in" or get a really big windscreen.
