Yes i have heard of that from some!! What type was he running? You know if the tires controlled all that?  :stickpoke: Rossi wouldn't have done that graceful low side that handed Nicky the crown!! Go" U S A" If you don't think they are for you "Don't get em"!! I tried em cause the others were breakin me with the cost and crappy miles B4 they were smooth. If you are The King or Queen of the canyon carvers and just do the occasional 200 mile ride, by all means get the Hi $$ stuff!! After all like myself Rossi can't afford the best. The 009 Ravens Rock!! Dry, Wet, and will do it for over 8K on the rear. That's what I'm talkin about!! :beers:

Mine are yet to 'let go' but there has been a time or two that Ive felt the limit coming.  Granted, all the times I can think of I was coming into 10mph curves at 40+, leaned alllmost to the pegs.

Since Im posting anyway, heres my 2500 mile (3k on the front) progress report.

Unfortunately Ive been doing WAY too much commuting and far too little actual riding.  Lots of interstate miles and my heavy right wrist has "flattened" the profile of the rear somewhat.  Its just starting to square very slightly in the 3 or so inches in the middle.  Front tire treadwear is nonexistent.  The tread in the rear has just started to round a bit, dont think the depth has worn away at all, except for the slight squaring.  Overall, for commuter purposes, Im happy.  Good in the dry, good in the wet.  Not great.  Good.

Now, lately my initial love for them has been....fading.  I just dont like the way they feel in a lean.  The grip is there, it just feels scary.   I dont know if its because of the squaring, or not.  But something feels different.  At first Im inclined to think its me, but I have a sneaky suspicion its not.  The bike had the stock battlax's on it when I got it, and the PO had squared them to hell, and they didnt feel anything like this.  I actually have a day off (*gasp*) this week so I plan on going to play in a big parking lot to see what I can see see see.

More on this story as it develops.....

oh BTW, 009s front and rear.

The 009's are a great value in so many respects but they do have their limitations.  You do need to get them fully warmed to achieve maximum grip - max grip for those tires.  They can be slick when cold and below 50 degrees they take quite a while to warm up.

Having just roasted and toasted an Avon Viper Sport (1,923 freeking miles) I was impressed by the stick but not by the longevity.  Trouble is, the stick is addictive and will make you push the 009 further than I'm comfortable with.

Use the 009's for what they are - a great long-lasting tire with decent grip.  I put the old 009 back on - nearing 9,000 miles on it too.  It has made a good case for being my next new rear tire...... for the third time.

Hey get some info on what they plan. But if they are there they have a plan and $ will be going up. I think the 006 or the 005's would be worth a try for you knee draggers? They take much less time to get warm. The over priced boys are comin down too so its a win win deal! One less corp jet or yacht for a bit better deal for the consumer!  :beers:

Hey GSFstiny i meant Chong straight! Like up in smoke. :toocool: Ok rub it in about the twisty roads in your area  I had two curves worth scrubbin some chicken strips off the tires, within 50 miles of me. They would have Leo's at both end just waiting! Now there is a subdivision road in the middle of one so the stop light screws that up. By the time i ride up to your realm my 009's are good and warm!   :bigok:

lol! Weve got some sweet ones.  Might as well have a nice slow cruise through deal's gap on the way too.  :bigok:

They way the 009s wear you could ride up, ride for a week and ride back and barely show any wear at all.

Did some riding today, and the changing profile in the rear is definitely affecting things.  I did the standard msf-style parking lot run, quick stops, slow circles, figure 8s, etc etc.  At low, low speeds (in above situations) they feel fine, however I do need to take the ERC, Im not quite happy with my technique.

Anyway, I hit some nice county road twisties, but I didnt cut my chicken strips below my commuters half inch.    :crybaby:    Just too much crap on the road to push harder.  As long as I took it easy, everything was fine.  When I got up in the powerband, the grip was there, but the stability wasnt.  Tight, slow turns just felt...shaky.  I also noticed it took alot more effort to bring it in to turns.  So much so that by the end of a 110 mile ride (about 75 of them on twisty roads) my shoulders were actually tired.  I was ready to get off.

All in all, Im not sure Ill run these again.  Its not an issue of tire quality, and it sure as hell isnt an issue of wear characteristics or price.  Its just preference, thats all.  For commuters, I think theyd be great.  Especially for $150 a set.  Ill try some others, and if I dont like my results, Ill try another set from the peninsula.

Okay boys and girls.... the numbers are in.  I just replaced my 009 Raven after a total of 9,744 HARD miles and it still wasn't showing cord.  Granted I wouldn't have wanted to ride on wet roads the last 500-800 miles but this was one helluva tire.

I recently used up an Avon Viper Sport in 1,927 miles (nearly twice the price of the Shinko) and I loved the stick but not the longevity.  I'm now going to try the Shinko 005 Advance and would be thrilled to get 5,000 miles with more grip than the Raven.

I may go back to the Raven at some point but grippy tires are really fun - I just can't afford using up ten in a year.

Now that's a review!   :beers: to both of you! I just put a Raven 190 on my Bandit on steroids! They are the same width as the 200 BT014 i took off. I love the ride of these. No weights and smooth as silk up to 155. (the speed limit on I95 these days)

BTW I got 5480 miles on the OEM BT56 rear and after i cut it off it still had 1/16" of rubber at smoothest spot. Great tire but F & Rear stinko's to your door with a nice dinner at Taco spew for the same cost as the rear! That's what I'm sayin. I'll keep ya posted on how it does on this bike. :bigok:

Hey i maybe crazy but the other day i got caught in that just drizzly with the roads slick as snot black ice hasn't rained for a while slick road! You know! So thought i would try the grip of the stinko rear. Stuck like glue. Hit it in 4th from about 40 stuck, down to 3rd and just stuck and went until the rpm hit abour 6k then it started to slip. But thats hookin about 145 HP to the rd. I say stinko's rock even on a Busa!
