Calgary Parking - almost a good deal
« on: May 15, 2009, 05:44:37 PM »
This is in today's (May 15, 2009) news.
Discount parking for motorcycles and Scooters in the city with the most expensive parking in Canada (perhaps North America)  A stall for a car can run to $450 a month.  In fairness a few places do offer summer discounts for Bikes.

Motorcyclists and scooter drivers are getting a discount on parking downtown under the new Park Plus system - starting Saturday.
Calgary parking authority general manager Dale Fraser says 100 new, smaller, parking spaces for motorcycles and scooters have been set aside on select streets from May through October.
He says the smaller spaces allow the parking authority to provide a discount.
That discount is 50 percent off - a rate of $2.50 per hour on weekdays.

Yes that is 100 spaces in a City of more than a Million with more than 23000 registered motorcycles.  WHAT A DEAL  :duh:

Heh. I think 100 motorcycles crowd into the FREE spaces around Dorchester Square every day.

There are other free spaces scattered around the city, and the ticket-issuers generally look the other way for bikes parked in the white slash marks at the end of the block.

And in some Impark lots in Calgary it's only $15/day. Almost a good deal if you compare it to the $33/day for a car but still outrageous.

Its a start but they need to come up with some free bike spots like other cities do.
Our city council in Calgary has been over run lately with Ontario style politicians ie: tax em, charge em, tax em, take away rights and then tax em again.
Once I thought I was wrong...but I was mistaken.

Calgary has had the most expensive parking in Canada, probably North America for over ten years. Thankfully when I park in Calgary the company pays for it.

this slow down in the economy is not helping the price much. I always look for those free spots but the tax collector...I mean ticket writers are cracking down on those too I've heard.
