Well, personally, I'm hoping the meet-up site can be farther down in southern Wyoming, say like Flaming Gorge or even Medicine Bow.

Those folks coming from Canada or the PNW can hit Glacier on the way down, but I doubt I'll be able to go that far north... that's twice as far for me as everyone else!

But whatever way it works out, that's ok. There's always next year for me. As long as this turns into a cool rally, we can do it every year!

Not as far if you're coming from Minnesota... Weren't you taking about visiting some friends there?

As it is,... at my current 300km (190mi) maximum ride, I'm looking at a 9 day trip to Billings. Just to go there and back.

Hey,,... which reminds me,.. what sort of time frame would we be looking at? A gathering spanning the weekend? Longer?

Is there a long weekend to center it around, or do we want to make it a non-long weekend, to avoid the extra traffic?

Have the registration or whatever paperwork your province requires for the trailer and any registered vehicles on board. Besides that, should be a piece of cake. It's a little tougher for us to take one into Canada - or BC anyway - they require trailers to have brakes. In WA, only trailers above a certain weight have to have them. My boss got turned around at the border with his boat because the boat trailer had no brakes. I've been across the border with trailered Jeeps before with no hassles, but car hauling trailers have brakes.

Perfect. For some reason I heard something once ( but I can't recall the source, or if it was reputable) about if it's motorized, it must be unloaded and driven across the border. Sounded a little like

to me, but I thought I'd ask. Now I just have to look into this new passport rule, and see if I've screwed us both over by not applying for it last year ( wait times are excessive right now)

Have we got a count of how many people would want to meet up? How many to camp, how many to hotel it? And what dates work best for everyone?

I likely can't commit til a week before, but I'm happy to help plan regardless of whether I make the gathering or not. ( despite my response time, I -am- paying attention, just juggling -way- too many things right now. )

Hey Stormi,
Apply for your passport online, then go down to Canada Place and do your two hours in the line-up...three weeks later you will have your passport delivered...I just went through the process

One of my buddies did unhitch his flat-towed Jeep when we went to Vancouver Island on the Washington Ferry, but that was because it was cheaper for him to pay two separate fares for his Jeep and tow rig than it was to pay for the extra length as a trailer if he left it hitched. He hooked the two back together while we were waiting in the Customs Q though, because his partner didn't have a drivers license. When we came back, we took a BC Ferry and drove thru US Customs on the mainland. None of the towed or trailered vehicles had to come thru on their own power. In fact, my Jeep ended up coming home on a trailer because I'd torn one of the lower control arm mounts off the frame... that would have been a problem if they would have made me drive it across!

That idea seems a little silly - what would they do for trailered vehicles that aren't street-legal?

Awesome,.. I'll do that. Can I take the other half's passport down there too, or does he have to be there? ( I think he does) I've read something in one of the local papers that we'll need passports to go to the states now? Do you know when that comes in? I can't recall, and I can't find the article...

I think the implication was that they only did this for street legal vehicles, but it could have been an ancient law, it could have been one person's run in with a border guard in a pissy mood, or total

Like I said, it smelled a little, so I figured it wasn't likely true, but stupider things are on the books....

I recall there was somewhere that you could endorse your spouse to submit their passport application (you print them, complete then sign them). I only had to go in because I did not sign my daughter's application. I signed the application and it was submitted right then.

You only require a passport if flying into the States this year but next year you will require a passport even at border crossings.

You will need a drivers license and birth certificate (or other record of Canadian Citizenship) to get into the states in 2007, by LAND

The schedule is for ALL travel to need a Passport in Jan 08.

You need a passport now for Air or Sea entry to the US.

That's no problem whatsoever for me, that's in my wallet at all times. I'm not sure if the other half has his BC though,... I'll check.

For the moment, I'm most concerned with this summer. Next year, we'll possibly be flying into the the states, so it'll need to be done, sooner is better than later too, but will depend on free time to stand in line.

Just playing too hard I guess. I don't know exactly when it broke, but when I pulled out onto a gravel road from a trail, I noticed it was handling strange, so I got out to look and that's what I found.

On the brighter side, it was on the last day we were gonna be there anyway, so I only ended up missing out on about a half a day's worth of fun.
