Yes. A 1200 cooler will fit, too.

what about a B12 into a B6 second gen Red?
I found a crack in my cooler a few days ago when trying to start the bike. I took it off and will be taking it into a radiator shop in the morning, who hopefully will be able to fix it for me, but if he can't I will just buy one from GDL.

While the B12 cooler will work, it will require a mod to the B6 frame.
At the top of the cooler the two bolt holes do line up, but at the bottom of the cooler is stabilized by two tabs on the frame which fit into the cooler. With the extra rows on the B12 cooler, those frame tabs will not stabilize the bottom of the cooler. I know this because I have a spare B12 cooler and thought about upgrading, but decided against it.

Just had an afterthough (yep it hurt my brain), i can see how the gen2 oil cooler can be used on a gen1 b6 but........is it a straight fit or will it mean messing around with the mounts?

I know the 2G B12 got a bigger cooler thanthe 1G, but I don't know if the 2G B6 changed. You can see if the two use the same p/n on a parts fiche. If they're different, you may run into the same problem Lloyd mentioned.

I'm sure it could be made to work. With a little bit of deadblow to those bottom tabs and then spot weld a new fabricated tab to the flattened over old tab. Using the old tab as a base for the new tab. I guess the bottom mounts are to stabilize the cooler to prevent cracks. Of course the frame is steel so if you fab up some new tiny little tabs out of stock use steel and not hardware store flat aluminum stock. I don't know anything about any modern adhesives. Maybe you could saw out some tabs from aluminum stock and glue those to the flattened steel oem mountaing tabs.
This is where our friends in the aicraft manufacturing industry might know more about those super glues. I really did want to fit that oem B12 cooler to my 750, as every little extra row of cooler helps. Maybe I'll go out to the shed and look this problem over.

We don't do much glueing of aluminum to steel where I work. In fact, steel is a pretty rare commodity. Lots of aluminum, fair amounts of titanium and magnesium. Lots of carbon fiber and fiberglass, too. Generally though, we don't glue pieces of metal together, they are usually fastened with rivets or bolts. Occasionally we do bond little aluminum brackets onto structures to hold up stuff like interior sidewall panels or some other non-structural application.

That said, a good epoxy like JB Weld or 3M epoxy (sorry, I forget the commercial name for it, but it's light blue when mixed), ought to do fine for something like this.

Just got a bashed up one from a damaged gen2 b6 and it looks like a straight fit. Will test fit it but im sure it'll fit no probs.
