PAIR removal sideeffects?
« on: March 15, 2008, 10:19:32 PM »
I've been meaning to remove the PAIR valve since i got my bike, and last week rather enthusiastically started removing those ugly bits. My boyfriend caught the bug and thought about removing the pair from his GSXR. He went to this site http://www.bugmanweb.com/gsxr/gsxrindex.html which seems to suggest that the removal of the pair caused popping in the exhaust. This I DON'T want, in the previous posts (and very good ones at that including that great pair removal 101 http://forums.banditalley.net/index.php?topic=198.0) seem to suggest that it takes away that annoying closed throttle pop i've been getting.
Also that GSXR site has some usefull info for all of us, LED conversion etc.

Ran 2Bros can and Ivan's Stage 1 kit with pairs on and off. No diff. Tuned out the popping by overenrichening the setup. This kinda defeated the purpose of putting on the can and carb kit. So now it's back to the popping and the neck wrenching torque I was looking for in the first place.

Technically, PAIR removal on the Bandit should reduce decel popping.

I haven't notice much if any difference with the PAIR removed on mine, however.

thanks for the feedback guys, the pair is off already. It will just have to cuddle up to the other spare bandit parts in the closet in case emissions testing comes in to effect.
Guess I'll find out about the popping once this snow goes away.

I installed the PAIR removal kit because my holeshot comp 1 popped on decel, especially hard decel. After installation, Id say popping has reduced by 98%.

P.A.I.R. is installed to add air to the exhaust gas to help finish burning all the unburnt fuel in the exhaust pipe. By eliminating the P.A.I.R. system and getting a correctly jetted bike, you should all most eliminate all decel popping. You will get a little, especially with the oxygenated crap fuel we have to burn in CA.

ok i know some of you guys weren't sure if it cause more or less decel pop. Last year running the stock header with hindle slip on and PAIR still on I had loads of decel pop. This year PAIR removed and full muzzy installed I'm getting virtually none, unless I really try to...ie rev the engine to dump in a bunch of fuel and then slam the throttle shut. I mean trying hard too, so I'm happy. Keep in mind that my jetting has also changed since last year...it's still with a dyno jet kit but I moved up a jet size, will report if the swap with the holeshot stage 1 modified will make any difference.

Correction... by 99.9%..If I really try hard enough I can get a fart out of it.
