dropping a 600 engine in a 400
« on: November 02, 2006, 08:20:27 AM »
right, i want to drop a 600 engine into my '91 400 bandit frame. i've heard that this can be a 'simple' (read very few mods) job to do and won't take more than a day or 2. does anyone have any advice on what engine to get and where to get it, or has anyone done this before and has any thoughts?

as always, thanks for any advice offered.

Where did you hear that?  I'm far from an expert but they are totally different families of motors meant for totally different types of frames.  The 400 motor is designed for the 400 style frame where it hangs by the head.  The 600 motor goes in the 600 cradle style frame.  You’re looking at major modifications to the frame, I would think.  I would also think you will have major problems getting the tank to work with the 600 motor/airbox.  Check the 400 forum where a couple guys have (tried to) put Gixxer motors in their 400s.  Lots of work and I don't know that either of them are on the road yet.
