replacing gas tank

Hi,

Will a 2001 Bandit 1200 tank fit on a 2000 Bandit 600?  I'm thinking of replacing
my dented up tank.  Is it an exact replacement?  Or am I better off looking for
a 2nd generation Bandit 600 tank?

Yes, a 2001 B12 tank will fit.  The only differences are colors and the fuel gauge provisions.

That's good to know, but what do you mean about the fuel gauge provisions?
Will I have to modify anything?

No fuel gauge on the 600 or the 1200.

No fuel gauge on the 1G 600 and early 2G 600's.  (IIRC, the 600 got a fuel gauge in 2002.) The 1200's have always had a fuel gauge. The 1G's have an analog gauge between the tach & speedo, the 2G has an electronic one in the clocks.

As far as using the 1200 tank on a 600, if it has the sending unit assy installed, it'll work on the 600.  You just won't have a connector to plug into it.  If the sending unit isn't there, you'll have a hole in the bottom of the tank.  Typically, the sending unit assy comes with the tank though. (Suzuki doesn't list it separately in the parts catalogs.)

My 2000 600 S has a fuel gauge. It starts to die around 140 miles then you have to switch to reserve. Then it dies at about 210 miles and you need gas. LOL!!

My son's '97 has one.  It's the little gauge between the two bigger ones.

I like how your son replaced the front blinkers with mirrors.
Do the mirrors have blinkers on them also?  Were they easy to install?

Yes, the mirrors have blinkers in them... they're late model GSXR bits. 
Yes, it was pretty easy to install them. 
Not quite a bolt-on affair, but simple enough that a monkey with a drill can do it. I drilled the fairing bracket pivot pins out of the mirrors and ditched the fairing mount (it's orientation would work anywhere on the 1G fairing).  Then bolted simple "L" brackets that attach where the blinkers used to go (thru the vertical flanges of the L brackets), then ran a bolt thru the hole the pivot pin used to live in on the horizontal flanges.  On the 1G, the blinkers attach to the fairing subframe, so the pivots are out of plain sight.  The first attempt, I used some L clips from the framing dept of the hardware store, but these proved a little too lightweight - the mirrors vibrated too much for a clear rear view.  The current brackets (2nd try) are made out of some angle iron.  The mirrors are rock solid now!
