Not bad. They want $324 for my bargain favorite the RS3 Oval. But I think they still have them for $291 at More Power Racing and free shipping. But you cant beat Bike Bandit for OEM Parts and part number ID. I have used them more for OEM maintenance parts and OEM accessories then any other site.

For the most part, no.  But, if you're resourceful, you can do a few things.  If you're willing to fab a little, you can go the route we did with Dita:

Also, I think I read in that second thread that an R6 will use the same exhaust....

Essentially, look for a can you like, get it in the smallest diameter possible (I think Dita's stock exhaust is about a 2" OD, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.), and be willing to make it fit.    :thumb:

hmmm.... I suspected as much. My headers are pretty banged up, sort of flattened on the bottom,  and I've been wondering if it could be repaired or if they need to be replaced. There's also a big ding just downstream of the collector (mid-pipe I guess). I've been scratching my head wondering what can be done about it all.

Around these parts we've got plenty of light industry. I could probably find a pipe bender and get a set of headers bent to match the current ones for not a lot of money. Then just slip the yosh can back on there.  Or maybe there is some way the slightly crushed pipes can be "reexpanded" somehow. I can picture a couple of options for that, but I'm not so sure how they'd work being in the middle of the run.

Oh, and Dita sounds sweet in those vids!  :thumb:

Any chance you could have the offending parts cut out and new parts welded?  Then to cover the ugliness, maybe something like a coating? 

Fabbing might not be a bad idea, if someone can do a good job.  The factory pipes don't fit the greatest anyway, so it's not like you don't have a little wiggle room.

I do think that places like Bike Bandit can still order the full exhaust, and you could cut the pipe part off.  That would be the most expensive way to go.  You could also try posting in the Marketplace that you're looking,.. perhaps someone has what you need sitting in their garage collecting dust?

Thanks!!  We've quieted her down a little with that insert that Bazza mentioned.  I can still hear her start up in the morning, but it's not something that will jolt you out of a dead sleep anymore, and I don't think the tone has changed any.

the bad spots are right where the headers curve up under the engine... pretty tough to get a decent weld I'd bet. I was thinking it would be cool to somehow get some tool in there and essentially beat the bent parts back into something resembling normal shape. Maybe a highspeed drill with a long flexible *thing* with some steel balls  on the end... crank it up and let the weights essentially hammer it back into some shape. That's be nice and loud too!

I'm not really looking at the moment, just thinking aloud. I definitely don't want to by a whole new system if I don't have to.

The headers on mine also had this issue, I managed to take the headers off and somewhat bang the bottom section in to shape again. The worst was trying to hammer out the baffle the B12 has in there.
Then after the crash of 07 banged the whole system up some more I just gave up and went with a full system from ebay.
Anywhere I've checked they tell me that getting dents out of exhausts is a huge pain. I'm with stormi, cut out and weld back in if that is remotely possible... those headers are a lot tougher and thicker than they look.

hmm,... would one of those "dent puller" tools work?  you know,.. for doing body work? weld the end on,... yank the dent out?

Honestly I would be surprised (but I have been before) our motorcycle exhaust, especially the stock B12 stainless (the only one i've seen) is very sturdy stuff... can't imagine just 'popping' the dent on it.

I've been pretty amazed by what my neighbor ( a bodyman) was able to pul with a dent puller.  He said the trick is that the ones that screw in won't do anything, the ones you weld can pull a wild amount of stuff out. 

The headers on a B4 are just steel, no stainless coating, and I don't recall them being really heavy when I took them off and put them in the rafters of the shed.   

That said,... the shape of them might preclude it.  A "cheap" puller at Princess Auto might be worth trying, but I don't think the merkins have PA. :)

we can get dent pullers, that's not really a problem. It's not a bad idea, and if you're looking at welding them anyway, why not take a crack at it. Worst case, it doesn't work and you have to weld anyway...

Still, it's way down the road for me at this point. Good to have some ideas though, thanks ladies!

Most of what I say on this forum is considered outside the norm and this solution will be no different but it works. Try and find a large freezer you can barrow, even a walk in. Remove the header and separate the the can. Now fill the header with water and set the header in the freezer so that the dented areas are submerged with water inside which means you may have to tilt the header so that each end is slightly up hill to hold water or you may have to sweat a copper plug at one end with the other end uphill and open to the air so that water can stay in. Try and keep the dented area at the farthest point away from the open end. Let it freeze and the dents will all be removed like new.

Off road enduro and MX riders experience allot of falls mostly letting the bike fall not the rider LOL.  Anyway the most damaged areas are usually the radiator and dented header, and while I have never had a need to use the method, I don't know of one that didn't work unless it was cracked. Its a matter of simple physics really. When water freezes, it increases in volume about 9% and while it will push out at both ends like the freeze plugs in an engine block, it also will take advantage of any weakness before doing so. In this case the dent is a very weak structural spot until it pops back out to form a ring which is very strong, now the frozen water is allowed to expand out the open end which is the only other weak spot available relative to the strength of the pipe. Hence no more dent. If the pipe had no opening then it would rupture just like frozen water pipes back east LOL.

PS, if your wondering why the water doesn't simply go out the open ends first without fixing the dent, its because before the ice has fully expanded there is a tremendous amount of friction to overcome to push out all that ice so the weak dent is much easier to overcome first to make room before encountering the strength of the pipe in a circular state which is even stronger then having to push the ice out the open end or ends.
