crash today

I did the unthinkable and crashed on my  Bandit.  It faired thru it quite well and no serious damage.  I am now in need of some parts and any help in acquiring parts would be appreciated.  I am ok, just a little stiff and beat up.  Wearing full equipment definitely paid off.  My helmet took the abuse as far as my equipment goes. 

2nd Gen naked bandit:

Oil cooler
Gauge cluster
Outer gauge cluster cover
front fender
rear tail piece.
front steel braided line, (right side)

Any leads would be appreciated.

Right now, the oil cooler and replacing my front brake line is  my priority to get it going again.   I might be able to repair the tail piece.  I won't know until I take it apart.

For a moment, after reading the sentence that preceded that one, I thought you were talking about yourself!  :shock:

Glad you're OK.   :thumb: Glad you were wearing gear, and glad it did it's job.  :thumb: :thumb: As some here know, I'm an ATGATT guy. As they say about helmets, they're good for one shot. Your other gear is intact?

Gunz is parting out a 2004 in the for sale forum, but i'm sure you have already seen that.
Hope you get back on the road soon.

Ooof, man, you really did give it a good wallop to have broken the guages!  But if you're not broken, the rest of it is just a matter of time and money.  When you get a chance, please let us know what happened.

I forget, what color is your bike?

  I hate it when that happens! But glad to hear that you faired alright through it. +1 on a new helmet, it did its job and its time for a new one.

Hope you are OK.

You should be able to get a SS brake-line pretty easily. Check with your local dealer-mechanic or check the yellow pages for local fabrication.  You can also go to Galfer or Russel, I am sure they'll sell you just one line.

As for the oil cooler, seems like there are some aftermarket brands that are larger and polished for "bling".  You might check Dale Walker to get a lead on one.  Otherwise call a bike salvage yard (800 number) & get one parted out.  In fact, if you're on a budget, you might get all the pieces, color matched from salvage.

Suzuki should have all the parts available already pre-painted.  I would not buy parts that weren't the right color:  that paint & labor will exceed the cost of the parts, and will look worse in most cases.  That Color Rite paint is very expensive & then it has to be a perfect paint job.  I would advise just to bite the bullet and pay the extra upfront.

One other hint, if you have some chips or scratches, for the darker colors (like red), a flat black marker does a pretty good job of blending & hiding.

Also meant to mention it is easy to get an SS line repaier, since you have all the hardware like bajo bolts etc. A local hydraulic shop I've used charged $30 for both fronts on an old KZ650. Worth a thought.

Sorry for your crash, Solman, but glad to hear you're okay. I can certainly identify with what you're going through after my getoff last summer. :sad: :duh: At least everything is fixable, including yourself.

Miriam, I'd be VERY careful using rubber-based hoses from a hydraulic shop, if that's what you bought. Their rubber hoses are NOT intended for use with brake fluid but rather with hydraulic oil. Brake fluid can cause serious deterioration of standard hydraulic hose over time. :shock:

lol don't worry i didn't have them replace it with hydraulic hose. They has SS brake hose on hand, and just used my old banjo bolts to make it cheaper. Really nice guys actually, they tell me it is pricey for them to source banjos, but if all i need is an existing hose replaced I'll go there again.

Solman, I'm sure i echo all on here in saying i'm really sorry to hear of your off,and glad to hear your o.k. , you have been good enough to offer me sound advice in the past and its good to know you'll be about to help in the future, Mainly due to wearing your lid. compulsary on my side of the pond. It may be worth you posting a photo of the damage in the hope it may make some others take up the habit an areas where they still have a choice.
In the mean while good luck fixing up the scoot and i hope you make the best use of your stiff bits :grin:
