What is the best way to shorten a windshield?

I have 2 touring windshields for my 1g Bandit. One of them is damaged towards the top of it. I would like to try cutting it down to near stock height. This would cut down on turbulence but should punch a good bit wider hole in the air than the stock shield. How do I trim it down?

I used to have a Memphis shades screen on an old Honda Shadow that I trimmed by using a jig saw and then sanding down the edges till smooth. The plexiglass was very thick, though, so I didn't have to worry about cracking. To keep the base of the saw from scratching and scuffing the screen as I trimmed, I just put clear packaging tape on the screen all around the trim line. Came out really good. Just be careful and use a finer tooth blade. The plexiglass did have a tendency to try and melt and "ball-up" from the heat that the blade generated. But, that extra "balled up" material was easily sanded off.

I used the only thing I could find in the house at the time (sheetmetal tin snips). After careful measurements I trimmed my windscreen down and put some chrome door strip (that's used on the edge of car doors) to cover the slightly jagged edge. Not only do you trim down the windscreen, the chrome door edging adds some bling to the bike.

 

The only thing that matters is how fast you can get from 0 to 60, because top speed is secondary

A freind of mine trimmed his screen by placing tape alone the line he was cutting and used a fine tooth fret (coping) saw.  Seemed to work a treat with only minimal fine sanding to tidy things up a little.
