Fuel prices
« on: March 29, 2006, 12:45:28 PM »
How are the prices for fuel where you are.  In gods own New Zealand we are now paying $ 1.58 a litre for premium.  Roughly I think that works out to be about, $ 3.75 us per gallon.  The B12 runs on 91 octane and the best price for that is $1.52 per litre.  Man is it geting tough to keep the wheels turning.

I run desiel vehicles for day to day use and it now costs $ 1.17 per litre. :crybaby:

Without any unplanned trips It is costing us $250.oo nz for 2 weeks travel costs, you know work and back, drop off and pick kids up from school.

Am I being anal or is everybody else finding it tough going paying these inflated fuel prices.

I would be interested to hear your thoughts.   :thanks:

Well across the world in Quebec, Canada we're paying $1.069/L right now. The exchange and conversion come out to about the same...$3.75US/Gallon.

I feel so bad for everyone in the US who have to pay $2.45/gallon :boohoo:....ok...maybe not..... better taxes, cheaper gas, nicer roads......yeah....I feel real bad for them about the gas prices... :bigok:

You must do A LOT of traveling to rack up $250 is gas every 2 weeks....here it's roughly $40/wk but that's only 300kms of driving.

87 Octane in the Bay Area is @ $2.85/gallon.

We'll easily top $3 gallon this summer.

The days of cheap gasoline for the USA are over.

We're about $2.45 per gallon for regular in the Pacific Northwest.  Diesel is running about $2.75 per gallon.  I'm lucky I don't have a long commute.  We have some really sprawling suburbs so I feel sorry for those people.  Some of our school districts are really starting to hurt, running all those buses is killing them.  If we get above $3 per gallon its going to start putting the hurt on people.

Still cheaper than anywhere else is true.

But in the next few years, we're going to be real close to "everywhere else."

The writing is on the wall.

China and India are needing more of the pie than ever, and that's only growing.

I wish people here in the US would stop throwing that $3 figure around like it's a forgone conclusion.  As long as people keep believing stuff like that, the oil companies will keep artificially inflating prices and make $3 a reality.  There's no basis for the current prices (which range from $2.43 - $2.65 around here).  This crap should be on the front page every day.  I know, I know... everyone else in the world looks at it like "oh those stupid, privledged Americans..."  Well, we have an economy that presumes, among a bizillion other things, cheap (relatively speaking) gas prices.  Between my wife and I, we drive 6-700 miles a week.  Gas is already a big part of our budget.  The more it goes up, the less we have to spend on other things.  It seems to me that our economy want to just scream to life.  It is way better than it was a few years ago.  These damn gas prices are the single biggest thing holding it back.

Yeah, right. Bring the troops home and watch the rampant, running amuck terrorists cut loose on their newly found freedom, terrorizing the free Iraqi's, burning the now guarded oil fields. THEN see what happens to our gas prices. NO! bringing the troops home before the job is done is what we did back in the gulf war and look where it got us. Bad idea!! Very bad idea!!!

Just to change the subjet until we get into a heated political argument here... does anyone know why diesel is more expensive in the US than gasoline?  Seems like it should be cheaper, but it's not!

Sorry man.  It's the truth.

I wish I could buy a house in the bay area like my parents did and their parents did.

I wish I had a semblance of "job security."

A "pension."

"Social security benefits."

Times a changin'.  The USA had a great run of great benefits to it's citizens for 50 years.  Now, lets see what the next 50 years bring.

I don't buy it.  There's no real economic reason for the current prices let alone the annual summer spike.  It's just a brilliant marketing campaign by the oil companies - getting everyone to believe the hype/panic - that's gonna backfire on them when the economy goes down the tubes and no one can afford to drive anymore.

That's a good question!
(and better than getting into an arguement over where troops should be)

It used to always be cheaper, but it seems with the popularity of diesel pickups, it has crept up over the last few years. First to match Regular gas prices, then Mid-grade and Premium, to where it is now, more expensive than any of them. I've always been under the impression that diesel is the cheapest petro fuel to produce. Maybe one of the members here that have worked in this field can help clarify.
