Got my B12!!
« on: May 10, 2005, 11:00:42 PM »
Picked up the 05 B12 yesterday afternoon. 0 miles on odometer, and 0.0 on trip meters, is that sweet or what. The weather we are having right now sucks, so I am patiently waiting for that to break. I rode home from the dealer yesterday, and went out for a quick ride this evening, but it's cold and windy. Man this is one incredible machine! I've got 34 miles on now, is time for an oil change? Dealer said no need to change until at least a couple hundred miles because it has a good filter on it, and the oil drain plug is magnetic to collect any fillings. When did you guys change? I'm leaning toward changing it before doing any more riding, for one thing it is supposed to only be in the 30's or low 40's with rain and strong winds for the next couple days, and second, hey it's only a few bucks worth of oil and filter to get all that crap out of the engine/tranny. Anyway, I already love this thing, and want to thank you all for any opinions and advice you have given. :thanks:

:congrats:

I'd wait until 100-200 miles or so, then it will also be changed at the 600 mile service.

:congrats: from me, too.  :bigok:

While it certainly can't hurt anything to change it now, or as Pete says, you should be fine until the first service is due at 600 miles.

I'm anal about doing a quick change of oil on a new engine.
I was ineptly suggesting to do a change at 100-200 miles, and the oil will be changed (again) at the first service.  (600 miles)

I guess it's not as important with the better machined parts these days, but like I said, I'm anal about it... :monkeymoon:

A big  :congrats:  from here too.  I know EXACTLY the feeling of turning the key and seeing donuts across the gauges.....  you KNOW what kind of miles are on the bike then!!!   :toocool:

The oil thing is a matter of preference however the filter MUST be changed at the 600 mile mark unless beforehand.  I found very little if any "break-in" debris on the first change.  To be honest, I don't think my drain plug has the magnet in the end either..... I'm curious to read if your 2005 model has one.

Ride safe and enjoy one of the best value motorcycles made!!

Didn't they make it in only one color in 2005?

That's from the Suzuki site.

It's a long story, but unless you have permission to use the image from Suzuki, Cafepress won't let you put a picture of a bike on a shirt.

Thanks for posting that pic Pete, that way everyone knows what the bike we are talking about looks like. I'll try to take some pics of mine when I get a chance and post some for you guys, if I can figure out how to size and post them on the board. Now I'm in the process of getting some gear. Thanks to Matt for selling me his JR jacket at a great price I don't need a jacket. I do however need either a tank bag or tail bag as I will be riding to work most good weather days, and I take my lunch from home. Also I am thinking I should get a tank bra to protect the back side of the fuel tank. I'm looking at the JR sport tank bag, and the cortech sport tail bag from New Enough. I am having a hard time finding the OEM Bandit tank bra though. Any suggestions?

Redbeard.... I bought a magnetic tank protector from Mag-Knight thru a dealer.... it had a carbon fiber pattern and looks great on the tank without covering up the gorgeous white metal flake sparkly tank.  Since it is magnetic you can remove it for cleaning bugs and other assorted junk off the tank.  Does a great job of stopping "zipper" scratches.
