having owned a recent vintage r1100s, the rwhp is closer to 90 due to the losses in the shaft drive.

To be fair to everyone the .428 is gross hp and dry weight. Realistically it is about .389 hp/kg

Torque on that big opposed twin is unlike any bike I have owned or ridden.

The bandits have it all over the bimmer twins when it comes to power to weight ratio.

hey, no offense to anyone, but that is the ugliest, behemouth piece of crap I have seen in recent memory. :shock:

I was at the Plano Ducati/BMW dealer this week to look at the new Classic 1000 Duc, I just don't understand the attraction to BMW bikes. Now, an old boxer RT twin I get, but the new flashy, overstyled crap makes me wonder who is running the design department-probably some car guy.

The 1150RT for a sport tourer is about my limit, but what the hell do I know anyway. After all I owned a TL1000S and liked it. :lol:

yeah, to each their own.  I remember not quite knowing what to think when I first saw the R1100S.  The first time I rode one I still couldn't get it.  Time passed and I started learning to ride more aggressively, test rode one again, and then I understood why people like it so much.

I've always liked the TL1000's too, although I've never had a chance to ride one.  There was a set of TL forks on ebay last week (which were apparently slightly bent, according to the ad), which I passed on.  But I'd eventually like to find a decent a set to put on the bandit!

Theres a guy on wnysportriders.org named ged that rides a beemer adventure tourer.  That man can outrun most everyone around in the twisties.  With the right amount of skill ANY BIKE can kick ass.  Hell I beat a kid on a GSXR-750 with a Yamaha Road Star Warrior.  :motorsmile:


EDIT::  I still need new pegs to make up for that ride.

TL forks are gonna be way too short. You will need a step down triple or equivelent to make up the lost ground clearance. Mid 90's GSXR1100 forks are probably your best bet.

I recently did a front swap on my '83 GS750ED- went with a '93 Katana 750 setup. The Katana forks are a full 1.5 in shorted and that is not the  inverted stuff. http://groups.msn.com/SuzukiGSGarage/gs750edbacktolife.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=4323

What helped me was going from 16in front to 17in. That greatly helped offset the clearance difference

Agreed, read my quote at the bottom of my post. Richthofen did not always have the best equiptment, he was the best by being able to exploit his strengths and his enemy's weakness'

Now, that said, you cannot convince me that anyone on the underpowered, behemoth, 600 lb, 60in wheelbase bike in question is gonna outrun an average rider on a 600/750cc sport bike in the twisties.
