Moto GP coming to INDY?
« on: January 02, 2007, 11:50:43 PM »
Has anyone else heard this news? There's a possibilty that Moto GP will come to IMS in '08. It's NOT a done deal yet but Indy TV news is talking about it and something on CycleNews online. That would be pretty cool NOT having to ride 2000 miles to see the Big Dogs run! AND that's adding a race at Indy, 2 Moto GP's in the USA, Laguna and Indy. How many of you in this part of the country  would go see that? 2 hours from Dayton....Yep Done Deal for me, I mean I've ridden to Laguna 3 times now so going to Indy...yeah too cool.

I read the same thing......prbably will run the raod course backwards (counter clockwise) and turn left on to the pit exit rather than the wall in Turn 1.

I can make it to Indy but Laguna is a quite a treck.

I'm hoping it happens.  Barber would be great too.

I thought one of the reasons the "Big Dogs" stopped going to Indy was for safety reasons.

I'm not sure I'd want to be on a MotoGp bike going round a heavily banked corner.

Besides, if you guys get 2 GP's then so should Oz, Phillip Island and Eastern Creek. Mind you if they can race at Laguna then surely they can race at Bathurst..

Well, if Spain can get THREE rounds of MotoGP (Jerez, Catalunya & Valencia), then the US & Oz should both get more than just one apiece!

Couldn't agree more, unfortunately neither the US or OZ are quite as passionate about motorcycles and motorcycle racing as the Spanish - hell one of the race tracks is owned by the local council and a couple years ago there was a 125 and a 250 team sponsored by a city.

With the amount of sponsorship money up for grabs not just in Spain but in Europe in general, countries like the USofA and Aust can count themselves lucky they've got one race - two for Oz if you include the Supers.

Hey, I saw that on Cycle News too, Terry. If it happens I will be there! I'm not sure I can ride the new Hayabusa to Laguna. I know I can ride it to Indy. :beers:

I know what you mean, you can see MotoGP, WSB, BSB and other EuroSB races on EuroSport (Europes version of ESPN) - LIVE. What I don't get is there aren't very many big bikes (like anything over 250) on the roads. It's mostly scooters and small bikes. Probably in the order of something like 20 to 1. The only time I saw many bigger bikes together was when I went to Bol d'Or - then it was like all the larger displacement bikes in Western Europe must have showed up for that.

Personally, I think the market here in the US is bigger than the TV & advertising execs think.  One look at the size of the crowds that have shown up at Laguna Seca the last two years ought to give them a clue.

Red..et all...Like you I believe there's a bigger crowd waiting for something closer then the execs think. And Snofrog is right 1 hour south of Indy in the counties around Brown county are some REALLY nice twisty roads to ride(Ind. State Rt. 135 comes to mind, Aprillia guys turned me on to it). Speedy and you guys up north if it happens your all welcome to come here to Dayton(heck you all from the south too!!) take a break and we could put a group ride together to Indy. Yeah the roads there are flat and straight but it could still be cool.
:duh: Guess I'm counting chickens, looking at the eggs...but I ended up spending a week in the Wisconsin Dells when they said they might bring the GP to Road Americia...and didn't. I think the fellows in OZ deserve another one too!Right now all I can do is HOPE they bring it to INDY. And Kent I made it on the Aprillia...bar risers and a good set of soft bags....you could do it!

boo hoo if i can ride a naked triple to t.w.o. with out stopping then you guys can ride your bikes with windscreens to indy for sure. 14 hours and over 800 miles with only gas stops to suches  from cleveland. indy would be a breeze. hope this comes to indy it would be cool to see the big dogs race.

Throwing out an update to the Indy race. It's been confirmed that Indy is going to host a race, but the date isn't firm. Right now they are saying "Fall 2008" and that's it. Hoping more details come out soon. I'm really curious to see what sort of changes they are going to make to the track in order to host it.

next year looks great for road racing for those of us in the middle of the country.

1)   Indy Moto GP (+ AMA)
2)   FIM World Superbikes at Barber with the AMA Weekend

Now I have two vacations.  If Indy would put the 500 back together I'd make it 3.  (Havent been to Speedway since the 2000 F1 debut, I used to go to the 500 until 1996.)

if this happen, it it looks like it will, I will ride there as well. To see motogp live would be awesome, besides it's a great excuse for a long road trip.
