Around here, some m/c dealers offer heated winter storage for $1/day. Seems in the Great White North, they'd be all over this sort of market.

What if you get it upstairs and they replace the elevator over the winter with a smaller one????   :duh:  :stickpoke:

Seriously, I like the cargo van idea.  Delivery guys and contractors are always uloading them cheaply.  A lot of them have no back windows.   Hell, you could unbolt the passenger seat to make room.

In any case... yeah, take pics!

Sounds like a great idea for somebody with some entrepreneurial tendencies.....

Maybe there's a large empty building you can pick up for pretty cheap rent?
A couple of hundred bikes at $25 each/per month, even if you had really limited access hours/days over the weekend, could add up.

You could even use the building to store snowmobiles in the summer.

Guess what fellas, The Bike in the Elevator looks like a GO!. We sized the elevator up with my wifes B6 yesterday, Got some strange looks, I tell ya!

BUT IT FITS!

I'll post pics of the process when we do finally put them into hibernation.

Sorry man, but I can't see that bike going into that elevator. I think you're barking up a dead tree there. Would your landlord allow one of those portable bike barns? Friend of mine kept his bike in one next to his house. Worked out nicely.  :bigok:

You might be able to strap the bike down to a 'piano dolly', the type used in moving big furniture.
It would be easier to manuever.   Usually all four wheels swivel. Maybe take the front wheel and fender  off of the bike to shorten it up a bit..

Harbor Freight has them, as well as other places.

You'd want to make sure the bike is off the ground a few inches, maybe build up the wooden bed a little, and then put some means to strap the bike down, like you'd do if you're using a bike jack.

If you can find one for $20-40, it's probably worth it.

For storage, have you seen those bags?  Its like a big sack and you put your bike in it and zip it up.  Can't remember where I saw it.  They make them for cars, RVs, etc.  The cargo van seems like a good idea if you have a place to park it.  Big, gas guzzling vans can be bought pretty cheap these days.

Ok, the thing of it is... We actually physically wheeled my wifes B6 into the building and into the elevator and closed the door. This is what I mean by ..."IT FITS!"., we could of taken her up right then and there, but We have a few more reasonable days of weather left plus, I didnt have my camera with me to take pics, so it'll be sometime in the next 2 weeks.
That plus we have to use up some gas in the tank first.
The GWC of the elevator is 2000 lbs, so unless I put on, say, another 1350 LBs between now and when we store them, I dont think we'll have an issue.

Cool.   Put a couple of magizines and an ashtray on the seats, and tell people they're 'end tables'.

Sorry dude. I posted that reply about barking up a dead tree before reading your post that it fits. Geesh, don't be so testy ;-). I wouldn't have believed it. That's cool that it fits though.

That's cool that it fits. I was going to suggest maybe temporarily removing the handlebars and sticking a short bar to maneuver the bike, but if it fits, you're in (no pun intended)!

Simon,
Where did you get those frame sliders from? I've been looking for something like those for a while. Also, wich brand wind screen is on your wifes bike?
