Last night my friend swapped bikes with me and let me ride his '04 GSXR1000. It was quite an eye opening experience. I can see how doing wheelies is so easy on it and it was amazing on how light it was. It is a bit hard on the wrist, but an awesome bike to ride. I didn't notice it much when I rode his bike, but I did noitce how upright and heavy the B12 is when I switched back. I would love to take a gixxer into the twisties to really feel the difference. Have you ever been on a bike and didn't think of it much of the differences, but noticed big differences when you went back to your bike?

Yep, fer shure. The ONLY time I ever swapped bikes with someone was when I had restored my bog standard CB750K6 Honda and a buddy of mine owned an '82 CBX with the full meal deal factory bags and fairing. I'd always thought that I'd like to have a 6 cylinder Honda....however......I rode the X'er for about 20 minutes through some medium type twisties and felt like I'd gone 20 rounds with Iron Mike Tyson. I swapped back with my buddy and have remained "cured" of wanting to own a CBX ever since.

Yes, my K6 felt somewhat "ancient" after riding the X'er but at least the K6 WOULD go around corners with a modest amount of work on my part.
Four friends of mine currently own late model ST1300's but I have no/no/no desire to ride one, never mind own one.
To me, they are the CBX of the new millenium. My Bandit will absolutely annihilate them in ANY situation on ANY road.
I know it's comparing apples and oranges (kinda) but that's the way I see it.

Yes, each time I get off my SV1000 and get on the Bandit,it feels like getting on a giant dirt bike. The SV has noway the power that the GSX-R 1000 does,the suspension is down a knotch as well. But 10K was way out of my Budget, and I wanted to try a Vtwin sport bike out. Wich brings another difference.
Each bike has its own feel, Ya got to get to know the bike your on.
When I was a kid I owned a ST400 to comute and do trails on. Would ride my Dad's Triumph650TT on a Rickman frame(shift on rt) would race a Bultaco Astro(shift on rt) and motox a 250 Rickman(Montesa,shift on rt) One of the bike I rode had a GP shift patter, now I don't remember wic one. Maybe that was the Hodaka not mentioned above.
I have yet to take a GSX_R 1000 for a ride,but I'm sure I'd like it. The 750 as well,maybe even more. Wouldn't be cool to be a journalist?! Get to try all these different bikes out and do write ups. Dan

Yeah - I was about to mention the twin to i/l4 comparison. Back when I had the B4 (~60hp peaking high in the revs), I swapped with her former owner who was on a nicely souped up Superhawk. God I loved the tourqe of that liter twin! If you wanted to, you could pretty much leave the damn thing in 3rd gear and have fun. I wish I could have found a deal on a liter twin when I bought the ZX6R... RC51 or an SV1K... mmm....

Talk about different rides. On back to back rides, I try to make sure I ride the B12 first. This prevents me from trying to coax the good old Bandit into doing things it would rather not do.

8 of us just got back from California a couple of weeks ago, and we swapped bikes quite a bit. The biggest differences (obsiously) were the VTR1000 V-twin sport and the Royal Star tourer. Funny, going from the Bandit to either felt like less of a change than going back.

Coming off the VTR, the Bandit felt like a cruiser with ape hangers. Coming off the Royal Star or Warrior the Bandit felt like a pocket bike.

After spending time on a VFR 800(a bike I thought I always wanted) and the VTR 1000 I think I still like the Bandit platform. Still the best all round comprimise. My little 600 could keep up with the VTR in the tight stuff and still cruise up the interstate (yuk) when we had to. I really like the engine in the VTR however, and found myself thinking about how one could be converted into a Sport Tourer. Great engine!!!

Its like having a supermodel girlfriend (not that I'd know); everyone wants to ride her

She is pretty and expensive to upkeep (as in both bikes and females) but worth every dime.
