While I have really enjoyed my Bandit, I suspect the next ride may lean a little more toward longer distance travels with a better seat (and more power  ...thinking about a new Concours...thinking...

Hope you heal up quick and get back out on the road. Sorry to see the Bandit trashed, but better the bike taking the brunt of the damage instead of you.

Ooof!  Trashing the bike is bad enough, but trashing your body is another.  Take time ti heal, and shop for a good deal on a bike.  I'd suggest renting a couple prospects.  From the magazine reviews, I was sold on the Concours, but after renting the FJR and test-riding the Connie, I changed my vote to the FJR.

The reason I share this with you is that I know you might be wondering what the future holds as far as your recovery. Well, I am here to tell you that, as far as the collar bone is concerned, there is a more than good chance that you will be none the worse for wear - in time. As you will see from my photos my break was pert near a compound fracture and I too had much hardware installed. I was in a sling for three months after the metal was put in. Three months after getting out of the sling I was back in the weight room lifting weights pretty much at the same level and intensity I had been prior to the accident. After 18 months I had my hardware removed. The metal came out on a Friday and the following Monday I was back to work. The chronology is as follows: October of 2005 the hardware was installed. Feb. 2007 hardware removed. And as of today I have only slight residual aches and pains. As a matter of fact they are so slight almost not worth mentioning. And most often as a result of sleeping on it wrong.  Also, bench pressing seems to aggravate it a bit but beyond that its all systems normal.

Take it slow. Listen to your doctor and be smart about your rehab - it will really pay off in the end.

PS. My crash wasn't as bad and my bike was indeed totaled and believe you me there was a lot less damage to my bike. I actually ended up buying the salvage title from the insurance company.

Actually, the wife's orders are more strict 

Since the accident, I have progressed daily and I am now out of the sling one month post op.  I get to start rehab as soon as I get scheduled and I'm taking the wifey out this evening on a date...she has put up with a lot of stuff in the last month and deserves a little treat.

I've talked to a few folks who recommend replacing the original lines with something a little stronger...
