Kentucky needs some flat, straight, smooth  and uninhabited roads in wide open spaces....  It's not too difficult to wind her out in the right conditions, I checked mine in remote west TX-no trees, no traffic, no cops....  An ambulance woulda been a long way off if I f---ked up though...

Most stock bikes want pull much in top gear, so when you top out in 4TH gear, you are probabley doing all she will do. If your bike will pull to 9500 in 4th, that is a true 142 mph with stock gearing, 15/45
 rpm       -- 1st         -- 2nd       --  3rd    --     4th     --    5th
 8,000  --52.7   --77.0   --100.5  --120.3--   137.6

Pardon me for being blunt, but this is about the only usefull info I have read in this thread. Stock speedo is so damn innacurate (mine is optimistic by 10-20%, and it's not linear either), so many of us have different tires and gearing that it all renders "indicated" speedo readings totally useless.

The only speed reading i consider reliable enough is GPS or radar gun reading. That said, I did 210 Km/h GPS (130.48795 miles/hour) and it was still pulling like a bat out of hell (it didn't feel anywhere near the top). The bike (bandit.xxc.cc) is a fairly stock 2002 1200S with drilled-out stock pipe and (acording to the previous owner - not yet confirmed) stage one jet kit. The bike has 21000Km on the odo (convert to whatever obsolete measure you want at metric.xxc.cc), stock sprockets and tires.

Cheers,
Vlad

Different tyres renders those figures inaccurate as well :stickpoke: .

Guys, I'm pretty sure these numbers are from a gearing formula/calculator.  They look like true mph to me.  The part yall are missing is your Bandit doesn't have the topend to hit those high rpm's in 5th.  Those numbers are generated by a gearing formula using stock gear ratios.  In 4th, with a lower ratio may hit the high rpm's.   See ?
I have no doubt at 130mph actual in 5th at under 8K, it feels very strong.  But push it up to 8.5K and see what happens...

All the bike tests dating back to 2001 for the bike mags have listed the B12 in 140's, that's true mph on a box stock Bandit.

I know many of you have modified bikes, but unless you've changed the stock cam, your power curve still poops out around 9K on the tach.  That's a differnt story if you have a gixxer cam, it'll cruise right by 9k still making progressive power...

I'm gonna shutup now, and move on...  yall discuss it all you want, the facts are pretty clear...

On the gearing caclulator, you input sprocket size and tire diameter. I will send it to anyone who wants it. I have one for the Busa and ZX12.
I have found it easier to meaure the circumference of the rear tire and then find the diameter. I have checked this aginst my gps and it is acurate

If you wanna get technical, there's a problem with that formula... it shouldn't be "diameter" (or the diameter calculated from the circumference) but "effective diameter" which is 2X the radius from the center of the axle to the ground (contact patch). This measurement will be smaller than the radius taken from the axle to the top of the tire - unless the wheel is WAY overinflated or has no weight on it.

The posted charts are gonna be close, but if you want exact, you'd need to feed the calculator "effective diameter."

OK, I'm done pickin' the fly dung from the pepper...

In fact, the faster you go, the bigger the tire gets, so mesure it any way you like, it will be a lot closer than the speedo
