I traded in my 98 bandit 1200 for a new 05 Buell 1200 firebolt. It was bittersweet. I wanted a change and came across a great deal. Im going to stay with the board and still attend the rallies as usual. Deep down Im always going to be a bandit kinda guy. Here's some pics

How does it compare.  I like the Buells but have heard some stories about electrical problems and other gremlins. They are a  10 on the cool scale.

Suh-weet! I love the color... especially the matching wheels and windscreen!  

I've never ridden one, but I've ridden with a few, and they sound incredible. Super deep, throaty exhaust note you can hear coming a mile away.  

Can't wait to hear some ride reports!

Im in the break in period so Im sticking with the manual rules for the first 500 miles. The demo bike I rode had good power. The bandit overall had more power from 7-9000 rpms, the buell has incredible torque and power from a standstill til redline which is 6800 rpm's. Handling is razor sharp, but not as forgiving as the bandits. After Im done adapting to the buell I think I'll be quicker in the twisties with the same margin for error as I had with the bandito. As for the "problems" with the buells. Most have been worked out, there is no valve adjustments and the new belts are suppose to last the life of the bike with no adjustments needed, we'll see. Ergonomics dont seem bad, you lean over more, but the reach to the clip-ons is short. The pegs are high, but I have ordered the lower lightning pegs to put on. They are about an inch lower and cost $25.00 for the pair.

Roamr, That is one SWEET looking Buell! Now, When are we going riding? If it stops raining and the 'Busa isn't under water I'm going to try to take a ride Sunday.

I have to keep it below 3500 rpms for the first 500 miles. Once Im past that, Im up for a Southern Ohio ride. I want to burn up the dunlop 208's that are on here. I here they  only last like 2000 miles. So I want to time it that come rally time I throw on my diablo's for the rally. Thanks guys for the comments. We do have one odd combo of bikes for a bandit rally dont we?

nice bike roamr. my favorite color combo, ever since we rode with that guy a year ago with the same colors. once i get my tires mounted and chain and sprockets on in the next couple weeks(waiting for parts) i am up for a ride down south to scrub the tires in. wish my bike had a self adjusting belt that lasted for like 50000 miles. and no valve adjustments.

Thanks guys,,,,,smoothoperator I believe the wet weight is like 475 lbs. Its about 50 lbs lighter than the bandit wet.

FWIW - the Buell site lists a dry weight of 395 lbs (179 kg). An additional 80 lbs for weight weight sounds reasonable, maybe even a little high, especially if that means a full tank of gas (~24 lbs.). A lot depends on what Buell considers dry weight to be. There is no standard for what "dry weight" means... some mfrs don't include the whole battery in dry weight figures, not just the water in it.

BTW -   on the new bike! I hope it provides you at least as much enjoyment as the Bandit did.
