Bike has been good up to 4500rpm while running in for the first 500 miles. The manual says I can take it up to 6500rpm now - woo-hoo! That creamy smooth thrust from that engine just gets better. This bike really wants to rev unlike a twin where the vibes make you think 'enough!'

Just one comment I think I forgot:

Stock seat sucks on 1250 even worse than on my 2G 1200. After only about half an hour I was as sore as if I was riding a park bench :(. Luckily that design flaw is relatively easy to correct, and so is that fugly howitzer on the right side of the bike :).

The exhaust has never bothered me - I don't make a habit of sitting on it.

What did you do to make the seat better?

And what do you mean about the "howitzer" - you talking about the exhaust? What did you do about that?

I ride a second generation 1200S, but I would do the same with 1250 - find a cheap barely used Corbin :). Suzuki gel seat is another option, but I don't like how it fries your ass in the summer :).

Since there are no Corbin seats for 1250 yet, let alone used and cheap, I would get a sheepskin cover for the time being. Speaking of sheepskin, it's the best comfort addition to any bike short of a $500 custom seat. If I had to choose between sheepskin and Corbin I would use sheepskin. It may look goofy, but my ass is not complaining :).

As for the can, replace it with one of many after-market offers out there. Just don't forget to re-map the injection accordingly. I would look up to Dale Walker - he will probably be the first to come up with a well rounded solution for both exhaust and the ignition/injection mapping.

Figured I'd add a little first hand perspective here.

I just got done with a 3000 mile road trip with some buddies (Seattle to Laguna Seca). Me on my new Bandit 1250 and a buddy on his V-strom 1000. He and I hung together most of the trip. Overall, he was MUCH more comfortable than me. That Vstrom is much more conducive to 500 mile days in the saddle than the Bandit. Also, that Vstrom seems to pull harder at launch (he blew me away several times during our impromptu drag races), can hang with the Bandit no problem in the twisties, and can match the Bandit in top speed (~150 MPH on many occasions).

Bottom line, that Vstrom is one HELL of a great bike! But it's ugly as sin and I still like my 1250 better!

It's funny - these threads come up here from time to time and I keep thinking the Strom sounds like a great bike.... but it is SOOOO ugly. LOL!
