Well, I DONE DID IT!
« on: November 28, 2005, 01:02:30 PM »
I finally got a new scoot...
2006 KTM 450XC

Not streetable yet, but has the electrical capacity and wiring to run dual sport lights.  It's also one of the only dirtbikes sold in the USA that comes with a 17 digit untainted VIN and no "off road only" crap on the MSO, so registration shouldn't be too difficult... I hope.

I put about an hour on it so far.  What a brute, and it's "only" a 450.

Now I just need a super motard setup! :bigok:

Nice!  I'm partial to the 950s, myself.  One of these days I may have to get me one of them KTM scooters.

Had access to one many years ago...

Engine wasn't as big as yours, though.

Yes, that blue thing is a KTM! :stickpoke:

Oh, it's got electric start too

About 250lbs wet and 50hp to the rear wheel.
Brembo brakes, hydraulic clutch and enough suspension adjustability to make your eyes water.
Dealer's wrench went though it all with me, set the suspension sag and rejetted it for free.  It's a whole different experience than at a normal dealer.  A difference I can get used to.  Too bad the fee to get in the proverbial door is so steep.

Dirtbikes shouldn't cost more than street bikes.
But, you get what you pay for.

Nice bike, my brother in law owns/runs jd jetting and just picked one up for further r & d on his new kit.  Its more than just jetting, he makes a custom tapered needle which really dials things in.  Check his site at jdjetting.com.  He makes these four strokes run sweet!

A friend/co-worker bought a 450EXC with the KTM Street and Supermoto kits a few months ago. He had no problems getting it licensed for the street - but then he had it converted & licensed at purchase.
(He's got all the dirt bike goodies, too.)

It's about time, Manfred!

You didn't go to the same dealer who pissed you off a couple of years ago?

I've heard that JD is the only way to go for these bikes.  He gets lots of props on ktmtalk.com!

Nope, it's a brand new shop run by the most profesional crew I've ever dealt with for any purchase.  And that says a lot coming from me.

Nice bike, I have been trying to get a quote from a local dealer on a 625 smc but haven't heard back from them. I may just have to go the route you went and get the wheels and conversion pieces myself.

If you don't mind, would you pm me a ballpark figure of what it cost you so I'll know what i'm looking at spending.

On the jetting, send him an email.  He goes by James Dean.  He just got his '06 450 and has a new dyno with exhaust analyzer.  He should have some real good settings here shortly.  The nice thing about all the new 4 strokes is that they all share the same Keihin carb so he has lots of r & d time on this.
