WooHoo Hurry up UPS man.
« on: July 01, 2008, 03:49:04 PM »
Just ordered my suzuki top hardcase, mounts, color insert and backrest from a local dealer here in Richmond, VA.
The Total cost ( pickup @ the shop ) $585.18. I also ordered a new can from pipecity (hope its in stock this time) a Scorpion round Stainless Steel for $275.00 w/ free shipping. That'll be my mods for this year if you dont include the "Get thier attention" flashing red valve stem caps  :thumb:

I'll be sure to let you all know how the experiance with pipecity turns out. If anyone has any experiance with these guys go ahead and tell me how they treated you.

I think you'll like the cases.  The top case is definitely water proof (mine is) but the two side cases are questionable.  not much gets through but enough that you may want to use a little extra protection if you're putting anything in there you don't want to get wet.

Unfortunately I've had two occasions to test them out lately.  I have a '08.  The instructions for the mounts and color matched inserts did not come, or did not come in English to the dealer I got mine from, he just had to figure it out.  Took him some time to do it.  I think the directions that did come were in Japanese.  :-D.  Its hard to find a dealer in Middle Tennessee that has a mechanic that reads Japanese.

I found a nice write up with pictures on how to do the install. I've had that setting on my computer for months waiting on this day as I also cant read japanese :)
I cant remember if i got that write up her or over at Maxzuki though.. getting old I guess.

Thanks for the feedback.

I just recieved email that once again the round is not available but the more expensive oval is... changed my order, make that $299.00 w/ no shipping cost.

Your UPS delivery person must be more fashionably dressed than mine.  Anyway, yeah, a couple weeks ago I ordered a set of Pilot Road 2s on Tuesday, and UPS left them by the garage door on Friday (such service!) and now I am just trying to finish wearing the tread of the old set (Pilot Road 1s) so I can enjoy tat "fresh tire feeling" again.

Well... here is an update.

The scorpion exhaust is shipping fedex with a delivery date of 7-15-08.
My order with a local >shall remain nameless< bike dealership tells me that it will take months for ALL the parts to arrive and Suzki doesnt have them stocked. :( Order cancelled, I'm of the instant gratification generation, I want it now. Oh well, time to look into Givi's or something.

Decided to wait a bit on the Givi but it looks like I will be taking that route.
As far as the scorpion goes, recieved that yesterday and installed last night.
Sounds way better than stock, more agressive sound in higher RPM's  with a low idle rumble that makes me smile :)
Directions really sucked, looks like scorpion takes it for granted you know how to do stuff as the only instructions was an exploded view of the slip-on, midpipe and clamps. One of the clamps was a very tight fit and was a lot smaller than the other. I tried reversing the order of the clamps on the midpipe and it was too small at both ends. I ended up
tappering the midpipe end that connects to the slip on and installing it there. After a few aggravating moments I got it together. I didnt have the right thermal sealant on hand (thought I did ) so I tightened the clamps down cold, then warmed the bike and tightened em some more and it seems that I have no leaks anywhere for the time being.
The parts list shows I should of recieved a chrome hanger and plastic insert that wraps the can and mounts behind the rear pegs but all I recieved in that department was a black carbon fiber looking hanger. It appears to be tough enough and is holding the can firmly in place ok even after about 75 miles of test riding.
Overall I'm satisfied with the setup and really enjoy the new sound. Pipe city charged $299.00 with free shipping for
this pipe and it took about a week to arrive Fedex ground.
Scale of 1 to 10 for my experience  Pipecity gets a 7 since they didnt have the round in stock twice and I had to go oval. Scorpion gets a 8 since they failed to update their parts list for the new hardware (or lack thereof ) and for the one clamp being barely barely barely large enough. A large clamp like the other would of been perfect.

Scorpion makes nice pipes.  I like my Oval, blue-flame, TI pipe a lot.  Very nice fit and finish.
