Yet another bike in the stable: VTR 250 Interceptor
« on: June 30, 2005, 10:28:22 PM »
I recently picked up a '90 Honda VTR 250 for my wife to ride in the twisties and hopefully do a couple of track days on. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of power that bike has. While it's no torque monster, it will easily leave traffic behind from a stop light. At an indicated 80 mph it's engine is turning nearly 10,000rpm (redline is 14,000) but feels completely comfortable at speed. Since the engine is running in it's power band at highway speeds, it actually has pretty good power left in reserve. Also, I don't feel the least bit vulnerable in highway traffic on the bike like I do on some other larger displacement bikes. Nor do I feel cramped on the bike. Also, of course, the light weight of the bike makes it a real joy to ride. I can't wait to take the bike on a track or at least some twisty mountain roads myself. She'll have to fight me for it!

I looked at one of those a couple years ago. Excellent condition and could have bought it for 1200 bucks at a Honda dealer. Had 14000 on it. Sounds like it would be alot of fun. :beers:

It's all about the little bikes.

It's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow.

Yeah, somebody at American Honda thought that they might attract more new riders by adding flouresent colors to it.   Fortunately, by 1990, the paint job got a little more sedate. Mine doesn't have any decals left on it. Just white body work with the blue tank and seat. Also, in '90 they put a 17" front wheel on it and ditched the "inboard rotor" for a larger traditional rotor.

Talk about old bike lust. Check out this site:http://www.bradsbikes.net/recent_sales.aspx. Great prices to boot! They just recently sold a couple of RDs.
