First Gear HT Pants
« on: April 14, 2006, 12:57:28 PM »
I just picked up a pair of First Gear HT Pants from New Enough. These are a nice pant if you're looking for something to wear over your street clothes. I've had a pair of leather riding pants, but it was too much hassle to change clothes when I'd get to work or somewhere where I wanted to be in regular clothes, so I would skip leg protection on these occasions, which isn't the greatest idea. Thankfully, I've never had to pay for that decision, but it's always on my mind when riding that way, so I talked my better half into getting these for me for my birthday the other day.

The great thing about them is they are now on closeout sale for $119 at New Enough. (And New Enough will donate $1 to Bandit Alley with each purchase!) Seems First Gear has just come out with their HT II pants, so these are marked down. The only difference (according to New Enough) is the HT II has a short strip of fabric added to the back with a zipper strip on it to attach to your jacket. I figured for the $42.96 price difference I could live without the new feature. Sizes are limited since these are closeouts, but if they have your size...  :bigok:

Red, so what do you think of them so far?  Since your an avid rider, in the Northwet and one of the main posters on this site.  I have been riding with them for 18 months or so, but I have never seen anyone else ride with them.  I was wondering if I was the only one suckered into buying them. Do you think they provide much protection?  I figure it's another layer atleast.  Its also nice to have the zip out liner for the colder days.  The only issue I have had with them is I broke off a couple of the zipper pulls.

They just arrived last night at like 7:30 PM... man, I didn't think those FedEx guys worked that late!

So far, I've just worn them around the house for a little to be sure they fit. They feel like they'll do as good a job as my textile jackets for protection. Since they're a relatively loose fitting pant, I didn't opt for the heavier armor that's available, just the softer stuff that comes stock.

Which zipper pulls broke off? The legs?

Had a slight issue with my '01 Joe Rocket Tahoe jacket's main pull. If that's the only issue, it's not too big a deal, I can fab a new pull with a little safety wire.

I had the Main on the Fly and the left leg.  I used a keychain ring on the left leg.  Can't seem to remember the Main fly.  (Hmmm.  thay say the mind is the first thing to go and I cant remember the 2nd.)   I used a temp gauge keychain for my Main on my First Gear Kilimanjaro jacket.

I bought a pair last fall and I have about 500 miles on them.  They are plenty warm down to the low 30's, and have been comfortable to wear.  They are a little bulky with the liner in, which got me a few remarks at work (nice snowpants). :duh:

I agree that they would provide a fair amount of protection in a fall.

i found some nice pants new and cheap on ebay but the sizing is worrying me.  I'm a 38 in canada but that is often a 36 in the states...then sometimes I want to wear the pants over my jeans and other times not!  What's a cheap bugger to do?

i've been wearing these pant for 2 seasons now. they are great pants. water proof warm and easy to put on. they are also way more comfy then my leathers. mt fly zipper also broke. i am using a key chain ring on mine. if you use them with out pants under them i would suggest getting a pair of suspenders. cause the stock belt dont hold the pants up to well. all in all i am real happy with them i got mine at a local stealer for 125(left over also) my pants have somewhere around 5000 or 6000 miles on them and are holding up well.. i like to wear them when i am doing long rides or touring, also beat the heck out of my leathers in the cold.

First Gear HT Air Overpants

I recieved my Air Over Pants Tusday 4.25.06.  Wore them last week with and with out the liner.. Went 1 size smaller than my "Winter" over pants and these are more snug.  I did the Rain Test this morning and they passed the inital test. I am not wet.... The liner is alot thiner than the winters, but I stayed warm enough on the 40-50 degree AM commute last week.  So far I am happy with them. :thanks:

And I did dontate the buck to Bandit Alley.

Looks like the plain original HT's that were on closeout are all gone now. Still some limited selections of the HT Airs & Fuels (a leather/textile combo pany).
