I actually ran out of petrol in the middle of nowhere on my test ride before I bought the bike. Oh how I laughed.

The upside of that is that I'm now quite careful about how far I ride between fuel stops. I reset the trip odo every time I fill up. When it gets up to 200K, its time to fill up.

So yeah, if you're getting significantly less than 200, it sounds like there might be something wrong.

Obviously the 2nd Gen B6 is a little less thirsty...

20 litre tank lasts usually 350km. If I am on the throttle lots, keeping the revs in the 7-10,000 range (and having fun!) the mileage drops to about 290-300km. OTOH if I'm all day with my cruiser buddies, at 90-100 kph, I can get as much as 450km. (On one trip I refueled at 430km, and was not yet on reserve!). However, this is a stock 2G B6, running with the stock lean jetting.

So...17.1 km/litre, 49.4 miles/Imperial gal, 41 miles/usgal

I get about 230km out of the tank before reserve from commuting. Or around 17km/Litre.
As far as I know my bike is stock standard.

I've had everything from 10-17 kms/p litre depending on carb setup, weather, and riding conditions. When its cold out my bike runs like arse and drinks gas like it was free. It also prefers highway trips to driving around in the city.

If you want to improve your gas milage start by cleaning your air filter and changing your plugs...

From what you've said, my guess is worn needle jets...

I bought my replacements from Jay. Made my bike run like a bloody top. Thanks again!

My B4's a gas guzzler. I get about 120~130 miles before I have to flip the petcock. I'd say about 140~150 before I'm pushing it.

It's funny, because I thought that, between it being a 400 and all, and having what is arguably a HUGE tank for a 400, I'd get, like, 4 billion miles or something to the tank, I was pretty surprised the first time that sucker went dry on me. Good thing I was only about two blocks from a gas station! Never made that mistake again.

Your trip odometer is your best friend on a B4. Trip odometer, my ass, that's your gas gauge! :bandit:

LOL. For sure. I can't say I've ever really cared how far I'd ridden unless the question of fuel supply came to mind.

How many gallons / liters did you put in it ? The manual states the tank has 16 liters, but I've put 17 liters in it a few times when I was running on the bowls at the moment I entered the gas station

hi there not sure if the problems cured, but i went a shop where i used to work and where i bought the bike and they have a dyno so stuck it on there and it showd it was running lean at the bottom and rich on the top end so i put 97.5 mains in and adjusted the needle with the circlip balanced the carbs and one more run later 3 more bhp and 0.7 tourqe, but its still a little rich on top but im gonna try sum 95 jets and leave it at that!!!! ps one of the needles was bent !!!????!!!!
