1st a bit of history: 5,000 miles, all stock, all original 1991 bandit 400. I bought it from the original owner that had it in storage for many years and it was last started in 2004. So over the last 7 weeks I've rebuilt the bike and have been having loads of fun. I flushed all of the fluids, rebuilt the brakes, new fork seals, flushed the tank, new plugs, new air filter, new rectifier, and new battery.
I've disassembled the carbs, cleaned the jets, and replaced all of the o-rings. The bike fires up immediately with no problems and once warm settles in to a nice steady idle. However, there are two problems. The first is that when the bike is idling and you give it sudden throttle input the bike will die. But if you give it throttle slowly it will be fine. This is a relatively minor problem but it may be a symptom of something that needs adjusting.
The second, and most critical, problem is that when I'm riding the bike and I apply a heavy dose of throttle in the lower and mid range the bike bogs and the revs up very slowly until 8k rpm or so then takes off like a bat out of hell.
In my research i've found people that says a bog on full throttle means too lean and others that say too rich. I think it is either the float height is too low or the air/fuel mixture is out of whack.
Again, the bike is 100% stock. Any suggestions?
