How much did you pay for your B4?
« on: March 30, 2006, 09:14:26 PM »
As I mentioned in another post a '91 model with 3,300 miles is being sold around here and the seller is asking 2500.  The carbs were cleaned, but other than that the tires are old, hoses were not changed, not sure about the valves.  I figure it needs a few hunderd bucks to bring it up to retail shape.  Which is 1740 according to kbb.  So I want to see if I can reason it out with the seller.  It looks like he's searching for a sucker, but if none come around maybe I get get the bike for a reasonable amount.  I am all for paying a fair price - I don't necessarily need a bargain, so I'd like to know how much you guys paid for your b400s.  Thanks!

1991 GSF400
27,600 miles
all maitinence done (very thourough)
2 owner bike
paid $1800

I believe the owner I bought it from bought it for 1,000 from the original owner and di a lot of work himself. even though it seems like the price was high, there were 0 bikes in similar condition for the same price.

i'm located in california though. the only reason why the owner of the bike you are looking at can ask that much is on account of its low miles.

I am probably not a good example because I found an idiot.  I got mine (93) for $500 in June 05.  This guy had just gotten out of the hospital after he laid it down.

The only damage the bike had was a broken reflector, clutch lever, and a few scratches on the frame and speedo pod cover.

It had a minor oil leak on the right engine cover which I fixed with a homemade gasket and the fork seals were gone.  I had a battle finally getting the fork seals fixed but it was not a big deal.

I just replaced the chain and the tires were nearly new when I bought it.  Oh and I got the bike with 10,330 miles on it.

I plan on asking around $1200 for it this summer when I find me a new ride.

Also the original owner put a full yoshi on and a jet kit (not sure which one).

$2500 does sound a little high even though I have already put 3,300 miles on my bike since I have had it.

I hope this helps

I bought mine with 30,000 kms for about $2,000 US 3+ years ago... it came with a yosh exhast and a jet kit -- oh, and dirty carbs, finished o-rings rusty tank, rashed right engine cover, mangled front rotor, finished front tire, leaky fork seals, and a dented tank. Yeah, I probably got robbed, mine needed tones of work. All that said -- I still love it. Runs like a champ now.

If you can get that bike for $1750 US I'd grab it... usually good stuff goes for more then the KBB value. I'm not sure what the exchange is right now, but in Canada you can't buy a decent bike for less then $2,000 cdn...

I got my '93 two years ago with 2,900 miles for $1600.   Spent maybe $250 total on new tires, battery and carb overhaul.  Otherwise, it has been very sound.

Ebay is your friend, check it out.

Ebay rocks if you're in the states. Exchange, shipping, and duty all get expensive. It wouldn't take long for that transaction to hit $250+. Any hot american girls here who want to get married?

1993
18,000 miles
The bike had been RAPED.  Drag bars for handle bars, no head light, no rear fender, several dents in the tank,  both engine covers had been ground down, seat was f**ked up, all the cables needed to be replaced, no center stand, It ran though.  I'm ashamed to say I paid....

$1600

I've spent that much again, and possibly more, putting the thing back into original shape, including repaint new clutch etc.. I dont know if I'd do it again
:duh:

What that bike has going for it is the low mileage, but on the other hand, $2500 is very expensive, especially if it's not in premium shape.  I could see someone paying that though because these bikes are relatively rare.

'91, totally stock (from what I can tell thus-far) except for raped carbs.

$860 less than a month ago.

I've dropped $270 on parts thus far, it needs paint and tires yet (so add another $300) to have what should be a rather nice B4 (with 11k miles).

My normal standard is to buy for half the going rate of an average condition example.  I think I got close to that, but I'm fixing this one up for me (wife), and not just to sell so I'm dumping in about twice the 'fix up' cash that it normally takes.
Cheers,

$2600 for two of them.  11k miles on the functional one.

Brand new tires, sprocket, chain, hoses, paint job.  Newly rebuilt Katana front end with dual discs and clip-ons.  New rotors/pads all around.  Fresh carb sync, rebuild.  Supertrapp exhaust...The bike was in immaculate condition.  I had no problem with the price.

24k miles on the parts bike.  Missing a few parts (gas tank), but a great supply of spares!
