i have a 96 b4 and would like to know what I can do to carbs to increase the performace of the bike.  does a fitting a non standard exhaust make a lot of difference?

A jet kit and high-flow filter never hurt anything (at least, not properly installed...).

Installing a Supertrapp slipon on my '93 made a huge difference in how freely the engine would rev, I definatly recommend loosing the ugly stock can!

You can change the performance characteristics of the bike by changing sprockets as well. Larger in the rear means less top end speed, but more accelleration, smaller in the rear means less accelleration but more speed (I may have this backwards...).

Nope, you are right...just think of it as a bike...big in front + small in back = high top speed...small in front + big in back = faster accel.

I think a slip on (or a full exahust if you can find one) and a proper jetting can really wake up a B4.  Or if you want to go nuts talk with GXSR400racer and he can hook you up with all kinds of goddies  :banana:

You can pick up a couple of HP with a slip on but to get some real gains you need to get a full system. If you have cut apart a stock pipe and saw how restrictive the collector is you would have to wonder how it makes as much power as it does. Just finishing up testing on the Yoshimura Cyclone 4 into 1 and to power gain is very very noticeable, It will now pull the front tire just by cracking the throttle, no more slapping the clutch. On the 1st to 2nd power shift it will pull the front tire about 4 inchs off of the ground all the way though 2nd. never ever did that before. Now it off to the dyno and see what she will do. After that it's time for the Yoshy Zyclone system I have.

My stock pipe has more scratch and dents than your average garage sale. I'd love a Yosh pipe, I didn't think they could still be gotten in the states?

I bought both of them on ebay last summer. I put the 4 into 1 cyclone on first and have just finish dialing in the jetting, I ended up with a 137.5 main and the needle in the 3rd groove. Next i'm going to try a the 4 into 2 into 1 zyclone and see how that pipe is for power.  
If you watch ebay all the time a good pipe shows up every now and then. Paid 150 for the cyclone and 380 for the zyclone .
